While driving at about 35 mph, I had to stop for a garbage truck doing a trash pickup. When I applied the brakes on my pickup, the brakes totally failed and I nearly drove another car into the back of the garbage truck. That averted crash would certainly have killed the car's driver. I avoided a crash by a rapid turn into the oncoming lane just as a car coming toward me cleared the opposing lane. My truck has been maintained professionally and the brake failure was a great shock to me. My truck is a 2007 Chevy Silverado 3500 dually.
Brake line failure from rust on a vehicle with less than 82,000 miles on it. All the lines must be replaced. Failed in moderate speed in major traffic jam. Second failure on same vehicle. After first failure all line were inspected and no problems were noted. Apparently without performing an ultrasound thickness analysis it is not possible to determine the condition of the brake lines.
On my 2007 Silverado I am constantly having to take it in to get serviced for traction control and service stabilitrak. My active fuel management lifters are also not functioning properly. This happens when I am making turns. The vehicle will lose control and it feels very dangerous.my brakes are constantly being replaced and I feel like there is some major issues when the vehicle was built.
When stopping quickly to avoid a deer, the brake line leading to the rear wheels failed. Luckily I did not hit the deer but if it was pedestrian or another vehicle later in the trip there would have been fatality. There are numerous reports of these rusty brake lines failing. My truck 8 years old with <72,000 miles. I live in the very bottom of the "snow belt". my mechanic says he sees multiples of these every month. He has a note attached to the lift for directions on connections because he does it so often. I lost all brake fluid to the ground and had no brakes! I had a 12,000 # trailer behind me. Thankfully this trailer has great brakes of its own or I would have never stopped (was on a downhill)

Last fall 10/14 replaced all brake lines due to corrosion (97000 miles). Which has been mentioned numerous times already. After that ABS light came on intermittently lost brakes last week to it to the shop they had it for the day everything worked fine. Continued driving light started coming back on & brakes were erratic. Yesterday was pulling out of parking lot had no brakes. If these are known problems why isn't anyone taking care of it. Why you would put untreated brake lines on a vehicle in the salt districts is beyond me. I had an 1989 Oldsmobile with the original line on it til 198,000 miles. I also replaced the transmission at 77,000 miles due to corrosion of the lines.($2700)
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado. While driving at approximately 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to stop the vehicle. The contact drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic using the parking brake to stop. It was diagnosed that the brake lines were rusted and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 92,150. Updated 5/15/15
The brakes failed due to rusted lines. There was no pressure on the brake pedal and the vehicle needed to be stopped using parking brake. Mechanic said that this is not the first one he has seen. Extremely unsafe condition.
Noticed that cruise control did not work while driving. Took vehicle to auto shop to have problem fixed, was told brake lights remained on even when brakes were not being applied (did not remain on when ignition was off), had the brake light switch replaced and problem was fixed. A few months later, a fellow drive told me that my brake lights were staying on while driving and then I noticed that the cruise control was not working again. Took back to auto shop, was told that the brake light switch was ok. Took vehicle to GM dealership and was told that the body control module needs to be replaced. I did some research and noticed that GM had a recall in May 2014 for passenger cars with similar problems.
While driving to the doctors office the service brake light came on and I had no brakes on the rear wheels. Upon inspection of the fluid reservoir, I found it to be empty. After carefully getting it home I found the brake line to the rear brakes to be rusted through. On further inspection, all of the lines under the truck are very badly rusted.
TL - the contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact received rear brake recall number 14459 from the manufacturer. The vehicle was repaired by the dealer; however, they failed to properly install the cable onto the rear brakes and when the brake pedal was engaged the vehicle failed to stop while driving approximately 65 mph. The contact was only able to stop the vehicle by applying excessive and continuous force to the brake pedal. The dealer was notified about the cable; however, they have not responded to the contacts request. After the recall repair was performed the front brake warning clip made a grinding and squealing sound. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 137,184.
Sitting at a traffic light, and the brake pedal went to the floor, allowing the truck to roll into the intersection. The only way I stopped it was shift the transmission into neutral. I nursed the truck back home and found all of the brake lines are corroded with one blown out. The master cylinder was almost empty in one chamber. The other chamber was totally empty. Truck has only 28,000 miles.
I began hearing a grinding sound in the front end. Upon removing the tires and rear brake drums I noticed the left front brake pads and the right rear brake shoes showed excessive wear. I know that combination disk/drum brakes use a proportioning valve to adjust hydraulic pressure. I also know that newer systems are dual circuit with one front and one rear wheel on each circuit. I feel my proportioning valve is either misadjusted or malfunctioning applying greater pressure to one circuit over the other. This could cause swerving or a spin out under heavy braking situations.

The emergency brake had to be engaged in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician stated that the brake line was rusted. The vehicle was traveling on holsey road approaching the intersection of holsey road and ridge road. The brakes suddenly failed when depressed to stop the vehicle, and the pedal went down to the floor with no brake control. The brakes had been working perfectly before the incident, and there was no warning of an impending failure.
Lost braking power when trying to stop. Was able to make a complete stop without running all the way into the intersection. Drove home carefully and called dealer. Dealer service said one brake line was completely rusted in two and the other one was just about to.
Doors continuously locking/unlocking, all dash lights continuously turning on/off, clock reset itself to 12:00, engine cutting in/out which also resulted in the loss of power steering and power brakes, all of which occurred while at freeway speed. I purchased the vehicle approximately a year and a half ago from a Chevrolet dealer in sacramento, ca. Since I've owned the vehicle there have been multiple occurrences of the clock resetting itself to 12:00, complete power loss when attempting to start the vehicle.
It has not happened yet but all brake lines under truck are corroded real bad.I am worried that I will loose brakes at anytime.I have had to replace steering box and power steering pump because of rust.I only have 48000 miles on truck, why is this happening?
Defective brake lines excessive rust destruction of metal lines no other rust on vehicle line to rear brakes corroded at fuel tank area both lines from master cyl. To ABS block broke off at wheel well left front this truck was in back yard for two weeks wait for title transfer rusted through just sitting there GM does not have replacement brake lines it is my understanding that all Chevy GMC Ford have same issue with brake line rusting thru I am a mechanic this is serious safety issue.
