While driving vehicle stalled. This occurred because the motor came apartment. The crank shaft and piston broke and spun the bearings. The damaged parts were repaired, but the failure recurred twice. Prior to stalling there was an ongoing noise in the engine that sounded like rods knocking. Dealership indicated that this was a common piston slap noise for this size engine.
While starting up the vehicle a loud taping noise was heard from the front. When driving the noise got louder while accelerating. Consumer drove the vehicle to the dealer, and mechanic could not duplicate the problem. Consumer informed the mechanic that this problem occurred on numerous occasions, and had not been resolved.
While traveling at normal speed heard a noise, and suddenly the rear of the truck dropped. Dealer stated that left rear axle housing cracked in half. Consumer experienced numerous problems and manufacturing defects including weak welding resulted in recurrent loosening of both bedsides, metal fatigue resulting in the shearing of axle housing, and general malfunction of factory assembled components resulting in misalignment of the bed of the vehicle and malfunction of the tailgate. Also, vehicle seemed to loose power and road stability when turning right at low speed. Due to the problems experienced by consumer, vehicle was taken to dealership for repairs and replacement of defective components.
While driving at any speed engine check light illuminated, vehicle lost power and stalled. This was caused by the way the air filter was designed, it collected vapor moisture which plugged up the filter.
Vehicle will stall usaually at highway speeds, engine will shut off, after coming to a stop vehicle could be turned back on, consumer contacted dealer and dealer was not willing to do anything. On 10-20-01, the vehicles engine abruptly quit running 3 times while cruising at normal highway speeds, all engine indications were normal with no failed messages, after coasting to a stop, the engine restarted ok each time. On 10-22-01 the vehicle was completely checked by the dealership for existing or previous faults, problem could not be duplicated. On 11-03-01 the same problem again occurred 3 times. On 11-06-01, the dealership was able to determine that leaking coolant tank was allowing coolant to follow wiring harness into the electrical connector on the drivertrain computer unit, causing intermittant fuel injection operation. Repairs were made, problem has not reoccurred.
