The consumer states that 2000 Chevrolet Silverado is having problems with the ABS brake system at low speeds. When traveling at low speeds the ABS would activate and the truck would not slow down correctly. This resulted in extended stopping distance. The owner took vehicle to a repair shop, and the mechanic cleaned both front sensors and reinstalled them, and then road tested. The truck was fine at this point. The owner wanted reimbursement from Chevrolet for repair work.

During very slow speed such as creeping in heavy traffic, the brake pedal seems to engage the anti-lock brakes making braking unpredictable. Problem is very repeatable. Similar to investigation PE05-020.

The anti lock brakes kicked in at any time whenever the brake was hit. This reduced the braking power. Vehicle has not been taken to the dealership, and consumer has not contacted the manufacturer. This problem started approximately two weeks ago. This mostly occurred at low speeds, although the vehicle has not been driven much because consumer was too nervous to drive it. This was a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado. Consumer found an open investigation, PE05020. Nothing has been done yet to correct the problem.

The straps on my baby's car seat do not tighten easily. Repeated tightening of the straps led to plastic fatigue on the piece that connects to the straps. We had two of these car seats with my first child. With the first one, dorel juvenile group sold me another car seat at a discounted price. With the second car seat to experience this trouble, dorel told me that they hadn't received any other claims of this problem. Now with my second child, we mostly had trouble with the car seat when it was in the rear facing position. Dorel should at least acknowledge that there is a problem with the design of the car seat that leads to plastic fatigue. This car seat is the comfort ride model no. 22-400-brd. There wasn't a box to check for this particular car seat. This was an intermittent problem.

The vehicle is a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck. The ABS is coming on unexpectedly when the consumer applies the brakes. Several times when this occurred it caused the brakes not to work properly and at other times it caused them to fail. This problem has caused the consumer to almost hit another vehicle and a building on separate occasions. She has taken it to the dealership which they told her that the problem was the ABS senor needed to be cleaned. They removed and cleaned both front wheel speed sensors. Because of some kind of build up on the sensor. When the consumer had this fixed the dealership broke the brake pads and rotors trying to get to the problem. They replaced these parts at the consumers expense. The problem has not come back since they cleaned the sensor. This is the only know problem with the vehicle at this time.

Manufacturer said vehicle was out of warranty, and caller has to pay for it himself. The consumer stated the pedal went down to the floor and the ABS activated.

I have a 2000 Silverado 4X4 that has the corrosion problem with the front ABS sensor, as do many other people despite GM's refusal to admit the problem in the United States... somehow it evidently only happens in Canada. Anyway, I cannot stop less than 7-8 mph most of the time without multiple pumps of the brakes. I dropped my truck off at serra cheverelet in hudsonville Michigan this morning (to have the guy tell me "it is very rare in the us, it generally happens in northern Canada" which sounded like it was straight out of a "what to say" pamphlet from GM). The dealership just told me it will be over $950 to replace the front to ABS sensors and that it is needed because they can't be cleaned. Rest assured, I was told the new parts are guaranteed for life... well what about the lowest-bidder crap they installed at the factory? why isn't that guaranteed for life, seeing how it's malfunction can cause life-threatening accidents. In short, please add another number to the statistics for this complaint.

The consumer states that his 2000 Chevy Silverado is making noise from the brakes. The brake sensor was failing and not working correctly. This has been a problem for several months. And three months ago the owner had $700 worth of work done to the vehicle concerning the brake issue. The dealer has not been cooperative in dealing with this matter. Right now the brakes are not working correctly and this is the third occasion. All work has been performed by the dealership or certified repair shop. The owner has not talked to Chevrolet. The dealer checked for any recalls, and said he would get back in touch with the owner of the vehicle. At this point, the dealer has not called back. The rotors and pads were replaced on October 6, 2004. The brake pedal felt spongy and making a funny towards the end of a stop. And then the problem persisted and the vehicle failed to stop on April 14, 2005. On April 15, 2005, the dealership did $667.16 worth of brake repair work. The dealership said that it had to do with the ABS sensor. The consumer was told about the service bulletin about the ABS that the dealership knew about. Right now the brake pedal has a spongy feel to it. To the point that the pedal has to be mashed to the floor before the vehicle will completely stop. The consumer keeps trying to get the problem fixed but it seems to be recurring.

Contact states: He is complaining about the ABS braking problem that is currently being investigated by GM. He has had an accident involving the ABS problem. He was going approx. 33 mph when he applied the brakes after slowing down to approx. 11 mph and he did not have any brakes. He glided into the car in front of him. The dealer repaired the vehicle. GM paid for the repair cost and the rental car; but he wants the damage done to his car paid for by GM. He has had problems before this. He had new brakes and rotors put on at 45,000 miles. The anti-lock brake system (ABS) failed due to corroded brake sensors.

Problems began about March 2005, with anti lock brake system. Front brakes are grabbing, and calipers stay shut. When driver hits the brakes hard calipers lock. And when making turns a noise is heard, a grinding noise. In last 4 months brakes were replaced twice. Extended stopping distance is caused when this occurs. No warning lights come on, after removal, the pads were chewed up. Not worn, but damaged. Owner replaced brakes.

The consumers ABS system, failed. When coming to stop at slower speeds the ABS kicks in, and it will not stop within in 5 or 6 feet of travel. Can't rely on it. The light did come on, but not all the time, only on slower speeds. Took vehicle and had it fixed before. Consumer feels this is a safety issue for when your in heavy traffic and need to come to an complete stop you can't and run into the back of somebody.
