The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle began to drive awkwardly. The contact moved off the roadway and discovered that the tires were flat. He then tried to remove the spare tire from the vehicle but to no avail. The vehicle was later towed to the contact's home and the tire was replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and a complaint was filed. The manufacturer also advised him to take the vehicle to the dealer so that the dealer could show him how to remove the spare tire. The failure and the current mileages were approximately 46,000. The consumer stated the jack is unstable. The tire would not release from the secondary latch system.
2007 Chevrolet Silverado. Consumer states spare tire fell out and flew 20 feet in the air the consumer stated upon retrieving the tire, he discovered that the mounting bracket had severed, which caused the tire to fall off. The consumer set up an appointment to have the problem diagnosed. The official diagnoses was that the spare tire was installed backwards therefore causing the mount to sever. The consumer stated he had not touched the spare tire since he purchased the vehicle.
Spare tire carrier cable on 2007 Silverado rusted through causing the spare tire and carrier assembly to drop onto road while traveling. This carrier had previously been replaced under warranty approximately two years ago.
Company has a 2005 and 2007 Chevrolet light trucks. We have experienced problems on both trucks with the spare tire hoist. One truck had to B towed because the hoist would not operate. The dealer, harvey's in shawnee, ok told me that my problem was common on Chevrolet and GMC light trucks. As of this date this problem has cost us over $300.
