The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd. The contact started the ignition and attempted to drive. However, there was a loss of power steering and brakes. The engine was turned off. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing. The engine exhibited a leakage of power steering fluid. The technician replaced the brake booster and power steering pump. The contact had concern of the potential safety risk. The failure mileage was 42,227.
The contact stated while driving 20 mph the shaft went into the power steering pump and broke it. This caused the steering and brakes not to work. He was able to stop the vehicle with the emergency brake. The vehicle was towed to the dealership and they replaced the power steering pump. The manufacturer has been notified and there have been no further problems. Updated 01/04/06.
