2005 Chevy Silverado Duramax automatic. Was an awesome truck until 10:30 last night when I heard a boom from the driveway. Saw what appeared to be headlights in the driveway, looked to see what was going on and my truck was engulfed in flames. New head gaskets, studs, intake, up-pipes, down pipe, exhaust and four brand new tires only four days old. Complete loss. Completely melted the front end of the truck, burned the interior to bare metal and big lumps of plastic, steel and other metals from all my snap on testing equipment and various hand tools.
The blower motor was acting funny a few months ago, replaced the fan resistor board with one from autozone, only place close that had one. Did chores around 10 pm, parked the truck, went in to the house and that's when it went up unbelievably fast. Total loss, many thousands of dollars of tools melted together to the point you can't make out what a few are.
My opinion, don't buy cheap parts to fix your truck, don't always assume that a part is a part is a part. I have no idea what I loss at this time, but a solid truck with a very strong running motor is now a burned out shell of crap. Be careful anyone that owns these years of trucks, I will be changing out my blower motor and whatever else I can in that particular area on my other trucks without hesitation and using quality parts instead of aftermarket garbage. I am just sick thinking of all the money invested and lost due to something that can be prevented, and I am at fault for it just as well as the parts manufacturers and GM as well.
