The contact owned a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. The consumer was involved in a collision due to ABS brake failure. The consumer hit a brick wall. There was an open NHTSA investigation, PE05020. The consumer knew several other people with this same type of brake problem. This will cost him $900 dollars for repairs, and he did not have the money to pay that much for parts and repairs. Therefore, he needed to be included in the investigation. The dealer said to either fix it or to pull the fuse out. This was the first time he had this problem, and he just got a recall notice for the parking brake today.

I have a 2001 Chevy Z71 Silverado ext cab 4X4 with the 5.3 V8 with 42000 miles. While slowing down to under 10 mph for railroad crossing then coasting over and went to apply brakes to stop for the stop light, pedal went to the floor and the brakes were not working causing me to rear end a large gravel dump truck. Caused damage to my bumper, grill and wrinkled my hood. I have not had any past problems with my brakes and without out warning they failed. I have done some research and found tsb 03-05-25-007A Sep 04 brakes - low speed ABS activation describing my problem. I have read many forums and it appears this is happening to a lot of people. Why hasn't GM issued a recall since this is definitely a safety issue. What happens next time when I can't stop when a child is in front of me! I have not driven the vehicle since and have not had it repaired until I get a response from GM since I feel I should not have to make this as a insurance claim.

ABS activation at low speeds(5 - 10 mph) at low speeds and only at low speeds ABS will randomly activate and cause inability to stop. Brake pedal must be released and reapplied carefully to prevent hitting cars or other objects. No accident as of yet, but the problem matches exactly NHTSA action number PE05020.

Consumer has a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. Consumer has concern over the ABS brakes. When vehicle is coming to a stop the ABS will cause the brake to pulsate. In order to stop consumer must let off brakes and apply again brakes. This deactivated ABS, and allowed vehicle to stop. Consumer had vehicle repaired once, cost was about $600. This repair was on the left front of vehicle and took place in March of 2004. Consumer was going to take vehicle back to dealer.. consumer first started having this problem in February of 2004. The ABS light did not come on. When vehicle was under warranty consumer had warranty work done on brakes, replaced pads and rotors due to the fact that there was uneven wear on the rotor. Consumer heard of investigation or recall, after looking found investigation that sounds similar, PE05020 NHTSA action number. Each time this has happened it has been during dry conditions. Dealer in Florida told him that there was a problem in the North with this happening due to corrosion. Dealer was A1automotive authorized Chevy dealer.

Consumer has a braking issue due to corrosion on hub bearings. Consumer had dealer fix brakes in February. Dealer turned the rotors and replaced the pads. Consumer had the same thing done last week. Truck had driven 2500 miles between brake jobs. Consumer heard that there was a problem with Chevrolet brakes. Consumer had midas fix the problem according to what he found on internet. Consumer said that vehicle was fixed. Midas replaced the front wheel hubs, and this seemed to fix problem. Midas did the repair last Friday, July 15, 2005. Consumer talked to manufacturer, and was not satisfied with the manufacturer's response. Consumer said that the problem was originally at low speeds. The vehicle would not stop. It seemed like everything just locked.

Consumer stated the ABS sensor went gone out twice on his vehicle. The first time the ABS failed (41,219 miles) the vehicle struck another vehicle while pulling into a parking space. The second time the ABS failed (60,675 miles) the consumer hit a small steel pole. During normal braking procedures, when the brakes are applied the vehicle pulsates and there is extended stopping distance. There were no warning lights or noises letting the consumer know there was a problem. The first time the mechanic replaced one front hub with the ABS brake sensor. The second time both hubs and ABS sensors were replaced.

Intermitent ABS problem at low speed. Almost drove into a parked car when pulling into a parking space. Stepped on brake, pedal felt soft, ABS light did not come on. By putting transmission in neutral I was able to stop before hitting parked vehicle. From what I have heard this is a common problem and Transport Canada has issued a recall on 1999 thru 2002 GM pickups to fix this safety problem. How many deaths will it take before the us takes action?

When bringing my 2001 chev. Silverado to a stop, the anti-lock brake system operates when I have almost come to a stop, even on dry pavement, but when it happens it doesn't allow me to stop the vehicle until ABS finally stops operating. It is an intermittent problem, but seems to happen more and more. I know of at least one more person who had the identical problem with his 2000 Silverado.
