I have a 2000 Silverado with 4.8 & a manual transmission. Started hearing noise with clutch disengaged & in neutral. Dealer says bearings in trans are shot. Vehicle has only 67,000 miles. I've changed the fluids religiously on this vehicle never towed anything. I never heard of a manual trans failing this early. Dealer says that sometimes you get a bad one.
Problem with Chevrolet Silverado parking brakes. They fail constently...its a safety hazard when pulling a boat or parking on a hill, especially with a manual transmission. It is usually 200-300 dollars to repair. I had my truck roll back while trying to load a boat. I feel this is a problem that Chevrolet will not own up too. Luckliy no one was injured. I have looked online at several message boards and it seems to be a widespread problem. Thanks daniel.
The shift lever slipped out of gear several times while the consumer was traveling and the engine was revving. The dealer replaced a worn out bearing and seal but the consumer is still concerned.
