Power steering--steering rack assembly is somehow losing power steering fluid--no visible leaks...yet power steering reservoir is dry, needing almost a pint of fluid to fill to proper levels..on 5/26/2000 dealership replaced steering rack (complete assembly)..(truck was purchased new from the same dealership on 03/17/2000)...as defective and under warranty with only 3762 miles on odometer...on 06/06/2000, truck was again in shop to be checked (after a road trip of 3700 miles in 7 days) for power steering fluid leakage as it needed over 1/2 pint to fill power steering fluid reservoir...odometer mileage this date 7798...determination of problem has not been diagnosed as of close of business this date (06/06/2000). However, the service manager at (randy owens) at all star Chevrolet in baton rouge, la stated that the steering rack (complete assembly) has been replaced twice on his personal new Chevrolet truck, and that supposedly Chevrolet is "aware" of this problem and is redesigning the steering components to correct. Mr. Owens also stated that this has been a problem that they have been seeing for some time now...several months...but that the only recourse is to R & R the steering rack.
