My ABS has been acting up, I.e. engaging when it shouldn't. tonight, I was forced to come to a fast stop and pushed the brake in. The ABS engaged, but then stopped and the pedal went to the floor, therefore I had no brakes. I rear-ended another car with a 17 year old girl driving. She ended up being taken to the hospital. I am curious to know if there are other cases such as this, including brake failure and ABS problems. My vehicle is a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. I have 106,000 miles on it and have had minute braking issues for the past year or so. I hope that is this is an issue that it can be addressed. That way no more seventeen year old girls get hurt, and no more 26 year old males (myself) have to worry about them or the safety of others due to this type of failure. As far as the question about oem, if that means aftermarket equipment, then no, all my equipment came on the vehicle when I purchased it and nothing has been altered in any way.
Upon pulling into driveway consumer applied the brakes and the pedal began bucking. Consumer was not able to stop the vehicle, and it collided with parked vehicle. ABS warning light failed to warn consumer that a problem occurred. The problem was caused by rust developing on ABS sensors. The problem was more prevalent while driving between 5 to 10 mph.
Anti-lock brakes activate right before the truck comes to a complete stop. This increases the stopping distance by several feet. It happens very often and only happens during light braking never under heavy braking.
While driving down hill, the anti lock brakes failed and the vehicle began to slide. The driver could not get the vehicle to stop and it rolled down and over a hill. The vehicle was totaled. This vehicle was involved in a brake recall for this year, make, and model. NHTSA recall campaign 00V345000; brake line chaffing.

I have a 2000 Chevrolet, Silverado 2500 pickup truck I bought new. With about 125,000 miles. 2 months ago I started having a problem. When coming to a complete stop the brakes go to the floor, make a horrible noise and then the truck thrusts forward. The past two months this problem has been very sporatic. As few as 3 times a week as much as 10 times a week. One time I was stopping at a side road waiting to enter a higway and the truck stopped then thrust forward into the traffic. Fortunately I did not get hit but came close to a accident. The way to stop it is by throwing it into park. Yesterday I stopped in front of a customers garage and went through the garage door as the truck thrust forward. I contacted the Chevy dealer and had the master cylinder replaced. No good. Then was told it was the power booster. Not that..today they say it is the sensor in one of the wheels. Will replace tomorrow.I do not understand how that will stop it from thrusting forward. I have spend much money sensor alone costing $600 and the garage door $760 my biggest worry is fear of thrusting forward when at a cross road. The car dealers and General Motors hot line said their is no prior report. I hope its the sensorbecause everytime this happens you panic. It is very costly and could cost me my life. I also think that more concern from the manufacturer could be taken. I do not know what to do if this sensor does not work as they say this is the only code that came up when put on a machine. They put it on the machine because sometimes the ABS light comes on and I had to get it to the dealer when it was on as they could not check it unless it was on. This was difficult as the dealer is 30 minutes away. If you have every heard of this problem before I have to spend more unnecessary monies or before I get hurt. I would appreciate any information you could give me. Thanks rich.
ABS module bad, no antilock brakes, the ABS light on dash is on constantly. Dealer says part is $800 and only availaible at GM. Same with fuel pump/sending unit, $350 only availiable GM, steering column knocks, both support cables on tailgate bad although recall coming too little too late, and the throttle body sticks are closed.
The anti-lock braking system (ABS) stopped working. A recall (00V-055000) was issued for this make/model/year, however the consumers vehicle was not included due to VIN.
ABS occasionally failed due to water, dirt, and rust getting in the sensors. Consumer also complained of the engine knocking. He was then informed that the cause was carbon and the amount of clearance between the pistons and the cylinder wall. They redesigned the pistons for that reason.
My son rear ended a semi-tractor trailer truck in a snow storm last week. He was wearing his seat belt. Air temps previous week were in the -20 to -40 range. Temperature at time of accident was -15. I raise this as indicated below. My concerns are: 1. the air bag did not deploy. There was $6000 damage to our 2004 Chevy K2500 crew cab pick-up to include grill, radiator, both quarter panels, hood, bumper and forward engine components. The impact speed was estimated at 25 mph. That should have deployed the bag. I realize that there were no injuries and my insurance would have covered the bag, but I think (as did everyone else who have seen the damage) that the bag should have deployed. 2. ABS system failed. Truck rear end slid to right toward traffic. My son was able to regain control. Choice of impact was either into on coming traffic, off road down deep hill into forest or rear end truck. Note: Other owners in area of the 1999-2000 pick-up series have also had ABS system failed. Local dealers are aware of failure around 100,000 mile mark but say that it is normal. ABS light is now on. Side note - we have had repeated problems with this vehicle and have taken it to different dealers. Problems include ongoing short in electrical system in cold weather, 4 wheel drive fails to disengage although light on dash says it has (discovered at local repair shop), computer failure on dealer installed equipment (not covered under warranty because it was an option).
My 2000 Chevy Silverado has a very dangerous ABS malfunction which caused a property damage accident with $2000 of damage. GM has been useless to me, this should be a recall item, and they refuse to fix it for free. The dealer I bought my truck at, romano Chevy in syracuse, stated that this is a common problem with 2000 Silverado. I have paid for many other repairs, but I feel that a defective braking system should be something that the manufacturer should fix for free and do a recall so that people don't get into an accident like I did. They want to sweep this under the rug. I have been corresponding with GM for a year with no progress, because they have absolutely no intention whatsoever of helping me. Thanks for your help. A recent repair was performed on my 2000 Silverado per a service bulletin to fix a problem that activates the anti-lock brakes at low speed conditions on dry pavement. The dealer instructed me that this problem will occur again in the future as the hardware wears / fails again and this will create another dangerous situation by not being able to stop in the same distance on dry pavement as with properly functional brakes. GM also says they have no plan at this time to recall vehicles for this problem.
I am having trouble with my 2000 Silverado ABS speed sensor and GM will not replace the sensor or fix the problem. This is a problem that is occurring on many trucks and seems to be something GM should consider having a recall on.
While pulling into a parking spot with the truck I applied the brakes and the brake pedal went to the floor. The brakes did not slow the truck down at all and I was lucky to have a large enough curb and slow enough speed for it to stop. I brought the truck to the dealer and they diagnosed a failed electronic braking control module and front right ABS speed sensor. Afterwards the ABS was coming on at low speed when it shouldn't have been and the dealer subsequently replaced the front left ABS wheel sensor since it's output was out of specification. The fact the brakes completely failed due to bad computer parts is of real high concern to me and others around the vehicle due to the safety. The failure mode of the ABS computer components should never prevent vehicle braking. I filed a complaint with Chevy to have the failed parts analyzed as to how they could have resulted in a complete loss of braking. They have denied my request.
2 complaints: 1. tailgate cable failed (broke) and tailgate fell off while closing it. 2. when braking, if encounter a bump in the road, ABS seems to kick in and let off the brakes, even tough no lock up occurs.
When applying the brakes brake pedal went down to the floor, and the vehicle experienced extended stopping distance. The dealer informed the consumer that the problem was with the antilock braking system, but did not specify the components that needed to be replaced. Also, the vehicle was only using the front brakes for a period of time because the rear brakes stopped operating. The rear brakes were replaced.
While driving on dry road, and traffic coming to a stop ahead I applied the brakes to stop. The brakes began to pump as if the ABS system was engaged increasing the stopping distance. I have had brake trouble with this vehicle since I purchased it. Once before the dealer found that the rear brakes were not working properly when stopping. The vehicle was stopping with only the front brakes, the rear brakes were not even working. My wife is scared to drive this vehicle, it only has 40,000 miles. What a shame to have a vehicle like this.
