The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado Z71. There was NHTSA recall 04V129000 concerning tailgate hinge and attachment. The contact contacted the manufacturer, and was told this vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN. Also, he contacted two Chevrolet dealerships, and was told the same thing. The contact stated that both tailgate straps broke on September 11, 2005.
Recall campaign: One of the consumer's tailgate cable broke on his 2000 Chevrolet Silverado prior to recall notification. The cable on the left side is stretched again, however the manufacturer stated the consumer would not be covered under warranty because it was already taken care of as a favor. The consumer stated when it was repaired it was a temporary fix, because the used the same cables.
2000 Chevy Silverado - tail gate collapse. Both support cables broke, while in transit. I looked real close at both support cables and found that they are rusted through. I am glad no one was hurt. I was on the highway when it fell off.
