The fuel gauge malfunctions after filling tank - it reads empty immediately and intermittently thereafter at any fuel level. It makes it difficult for traveling any long distance as you are not quite sure how much fuel is available or if it will shut down on me during a difficult situation. We have contacted GM and they want to charge me to check it and this has been reported as a problem for multiple models to GM.

Vehicle had been running poorly for about 2 weeks maybe more. Fuel pump also was sounding funny. Instead of the normal quick whirring for a few seconds the pump sounded like it was laboring and had a slower, deeper pitch. I thought maybe it was time for tune up but my records showed otherwise. ( I keep pretty extensive vehicle notes on all work/maintenance performed.) on the morning the actual problem finally was discovered I had started my truck after a little more cranking effort than usual. Engine ran for about 20 seconds or so and than shut down. Tried to restart but the fuel pump didn't power up and then the smell of fresh gasoline was everywhere. After getting out of the truck I took a look on the ground and yes there was gas on the ground and still dripping from up under the truck. Took out my flashlight and carefully peeked underneath and right away saw the main fuel leak. Fuel lines on both the supply and return sides are rusted pretty badly in multiple areas. Gas was leaking at least 4 points from what I could see at that moment. Seems that the plastic hold downs for these fuel lines and the brake lines are the culprit with these issues. This pump burned out do these leaks so now I have to replace the fuel pump module again, as well as the complete fuel line system front to back. I removed the 34 gallon fuel tank and the tank also needs to be replaced as it is severely rusted. I mention all of this because I have replaced the fuel pump twice before due to failure and now it seems that the ethanol blends are ruining these pump modules also. Each time I had removed the fuel tank I inspected the exterior/interior and cleaned, prepped, and applied rust deterrent products as needed. I have owned vehicles from the 1950's and 60's and never had these any of these type of issues.

Had to replace brake lines all the way to master cylinder and fuel lines from extensive corrosion. Also, throughout the frame and mounting brackets for shocks and leaf springs. Abnormal rust for any vehicle that was washed and taken care of accordingly.

Traveling along heard a noise stopped and got out to see that a gas tank strap had busted. Several months ago I had to replace brake lines that had rusted through causing me to loose braking. I am thinking that even though it is older and has miles things on a vehicle should not be rusting through.

Fuel line failed while sitting in driveway due to extensive corrosion after repairing the fuel line and running the truck to check for leak I applied the brakes and the forward brake line failed. The entire under carriage is rusty and all fuel lines and brake lines are completely rusty and will need to be replaced.

Fuel gauge works off and on mostly off. I purchased truck in spring of 2002 and problem started immediately after purchase, so I am guessing that the dealer knew of the problem just got lucky that I didn't notice till after the deal was done. Have talked to several people with Chevrolet trucks all years within 1999 through 2004 and all have had the same problem. And I have talked to several dealers and was told it would cost upwards of 600 hundred dollars to repair. Sounds to me as there is definitely a problem and it isn't the car owner's that are at fault. There should be a recall on this problem.

Silverado 2500 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission

The fuel gauge sending unit failed (I go by mileage to know if I need fuel or not). Driver's side seat belt locks up when you go to look to change lanes (dealer couldn't reproduce the problem--so it's never been fixed). Passenger seat belt locks up if you just lean forward to roll down the window (was told this was a mechanism for a baby seat--didn't think car seats were supposed to be in the front seat). Right side daytime running lamp burned out a long time ago. ABS module failed (had to pull the fuse so the pump wouldn't burn up) therefore the truck no longer has ABS. Driver's side front wheel hub failed due to lack of grease in the non-consumer maintainable bearing (the whole hub had to be replaced). The water pump has already failed (replaced that). The transmission is starting to slip here & there. The accelerator sticks causing you to have to jam on it in parking lots & other places where it's just not safe to be darting forward. This model year was just a bad year for GM. They need to fix these problems. This is the worst GM vehicle I've ever owned (and I've been a loyal GM customer all my driving years).
