The consumer stated there was a problem with the anti-lock brakes. Noticed this problem on April 30, 2005. A recall was issued, however, this vehicle was not included in the recall. When coming to a slow stop the brakes will sometimes catch and other times will keep moving. Had to increase stopping distance in order to get the vehicle stop. There is a loud noise every time you come to a slow stop. This problem occurred on all road conditions. The contact stated they have taken the vehicle to the dealer and they said it was normal. The consumer stated the problem with the anti-lock brakes was resolved on 10-13-05. 11/15/2005.

The contact stated ABS brakes kicked in at low speeds. The contact's vehicle was having the same problems as described in recall 05V379000. The contact stated the state of Wisconsin was not included in the recall. He had it repaired about one year and half ago, in February 2004. They told him the hubs were corroded, and had to have the left hub assembly replaced. Now, he was having the same problem with the right hub assembly. ABS light did not come on. He started having the problems in November 2003.

1999 Chevrolet Silverado half ton pick up truck. The consumer complained about the anti lock brake system. Spoken to the manufacturer on September 28, 2005, and they said it was not under any recall due to the VIN. Recall 05V379000 was issued on the year, make and model of my truck on August, 29, 2005. When approaching a stop it took a longer time to stop the vehicle. In inclement weather vehicle did not grip the road. It would hydroplane more often. This started in November 2003, pulled the fuse on the ABS pump because it shorted out and would drain the battery. It will cost $1,200 - $1,300 to repair the pump. When this first started to happen the consumer lived in North Carolina, and it was during a snow storm. Too many failures to count. The consumer's vehicle was not included in the recall because it was not registered in a snow belt state.

The contact stated the state of Wisconsin was not included in NHTSA recall 05V379000 concerning ABS brakes T because there was a lot of salt there. The contact spent over $600 for two separate ABS repairs. However, the problem recurred. The contact's vehicle has problems stopping at slower speeds. He started having these problems at first about three years ago. The dealer told him the contact that Wisconsin was not included in the recall. The last repair work was done on 4-17-04. The first repair was done in 10-03.

In reference to GM recall no. 05068 involving several GM model trucks and SUV's antilock brake issues at low speeds. I own a 1999 Silverado and have this problem. It is extremely dangerous! GM should be taking immediate action, not two months from now! I have had too many very close calls and my wife refuses to drive the truck. A second independent investigation may be warranted to determine why vehicles do not stop when "antilock braking systems" are engaged! I have had close calls with my GM truck and GM lumina car with antilock braking system not providing braking when needed. One such occurrence on winter roads in my GM lumina nearly killed my entire family of five! the failure is the GM antilock braking systems can reduce or eliminate the ability to stop or slow down to safely control the vehicle and prevent an accident. I don't know what I can do about it except remove the antilock braking system fuse.

NHTSA campaign id number : 05V379000 according to this recall, the ABS sensor can give false readings due to dirt and grim build up. GM's response for corrective action is to clean the sensor. What happens once the sensor is dirty again?I don't see how this could be a corrective action, because the chance of it happening again is great. My father owned this truck before me and had the same problem I am now having the ABS engaging at low speeds, (I almost crashed twice, because of this). My father had the dealer repair the truck and at that time the service manager told my dad the only way to fix it was replace the hubs. The truck was under warranty so the service manager put down that the hubs were bad so my dad would not have to incur the cost. (sensor is warranty item, hubs are not). (country club Chevrolet oneonta, NY) once again my father was told the sensor can not be replaced with out changing the hubs. I have also been told this by two other dealers. (norris Chevrolet westfield, NJ- sullivan Chevrolet rosepark, NJ). The hubs were replaced at 60,000 miles, at 72,000 the problem once again returned. So this has been a problem for about 7 months, I know when driving the truck to give myself extra stopping distance, it does not always do it mostly after sharp turns (pulling in drive way or parking lot). So if the hubs have to be replaced as per three dealers, so why does the recall corrective action take about removing sensor and cleaning (see following) dealers are to remove the wheel speed sensor and thoroughly clean the wheel speed sensor mounting surface on the bearing, apply rust inhibitor to the cleaned surface, grease the mounting surface, reinstall the wheel speed sensor, and check the peak-to-peak output voltage to ensure the wheel speed signal is within specifications. I think GM needs to resolve the issue not just apply a temporary fix. Regards philip J savarese.

1999 Chevrolet Silverado pickup - the brakes are not working at slow speeds. Consumer called General Motors and the dealership, and there was recall, # 05068. The dealer said that this was not a safety problem, and the manufacturer claimed there was no recall on this vehicle due to VIN. While coming to a stop between three and zero mph the brake pedal was hard to press down and there were no brakes. Vehicle hit the retaining wall at consumer's residence, and did damage to both vehicle and to the wall. This did not happen every time that consumer drove the vehicle. The problem started in the middle of August 2005.

The caller said this vehicle is not included in the NHTSA recall 05V379000 concerning anti lock brakes. The vehicle experienced the same problems as mentioned in the recall. The dealer and manufacturer said her residence was not included in the recall at this time. Caller stated she hit garage door as a result of brake failure. The ABS brakes activated while parking or stopping at a stop sign. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop but they were unable to duplicate the problem. An accident occurred when the ABS brake did not activate as they should when on an icy driveway. As a result the vehicle hit the consumer's garage door.

I was pulling into a parking spot at a local store in crandon, Wisconsin. The ABS system on the truck started pulsating and never stopped until I hit the car in the parking spot in front of me, which resulted in a crash. The problem was corrected when I took it to the dealer for repair the next day in rhinelander. They said the ABS sensors where corroded and need either replacement or cleaning, which is what the dealer did.

My ABS brakes are not working correctly on my 1999 Chevy Silverado 1500. When I try to stop the ABS causes the brake pedal to "push" back at me and does not allow me to fully stop in a safe distance. I took the vehicle to the dealer for repairs and the entire wheel assemble was cleaned to remove rust from the hub. They say that is causing the ABS sensor to send false readings. Yet they say it is not going to be a recall issue because it only has been reported by a few people. Well I am now reporting this in hopes of a more permanent solution such as a recall. I read that they recalled the trucks in Canada but not here. This is a huge safety issue. It has happened to me going as slow as 5 mph and as fast as 40 mph. It is only a matter of time before someone is really hurt. I have no confidence in my trucks ability to stop now.

The ABS module in my truck failed at ~85,000 miles. The motor wouldn't stop running. From what I've seen in my research this is a common complaint. The worst part is that the repair cost $1,000! I feel this is a defect in manufacturing, or a poor placement of the unit, as it is totally exposed on the frame-rail.
