This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
These ABS brakes just don't work properly. I am actually scared to drive my truck. I paid over 52000 Canadian dollars for this peice of junk. How many people will have to die before Chevy bothers with us"? I am assuming the dead ones haven't complained on here. Will someone please let me know when this is going to be fixed?"
My ABS light came on when I started my car and I heard a winding out noise coming from beneath the area where the front passenger seat is. I immediatly called my mechanic and I brought my truck in to him. I have yet to have the problem diaganosed as of yet because of my time schedule. I am concerned because my father-in-laws truck (same make and model) had the same problem, the same week as ours.
ABS system is not working properly, and that ABS light came on and stayed on and after turning off vehicle. Consumer could still hear the motor of ABS running. Contacted dealer.
ABS motor was running all the time. Had to pull fuse. ABS light & brake light on. Item was replaced at local GM dealership at a cost of $904.,after examining the old part, poor quality and design was evident.
Upon leaving parking spot. The ABS light on the dash came on and the ABS unit started to run as if stopping on a slippery surface. Stopping and shutting off the truck did not stop the ABS unit and it continued to run. The only way I could get it to stop was by pulling the 60 amp fuse under the hood.
In my research of 1999 Chevrolet, Silverado, all owners I have contacted have had this component fail. Chevrolet has chosen to replace this device at their cost all of them. Some of these vehicles were under warranty, some were not. Mine was not replaced due to the mileage on the vehicle. The ABS is a safety device and there is obviously a problem since everyone I know - this is greater than 10 owners - have had this device fail. I think this is a safety issue with the 1999 Chevrolet's Silverado and should be addressed.
The ABS system on this vehicle needs to be recalled due to the large amount O F failures occuring on low mileage as well as the outragious amount to repair.
When slamming on brakes to avoid an object in road vehicle went to the left into traffic. Consumer feels ABS is not working properly because ABS light has illuminated.
ABS motor would remain running after turning off vehicle. Vehicle taken to a repair shop. Dealer and manufacturer were not notified at this time. Feel free to provide any further information.
