This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
I took my truck in because the A/C on the drivers side wasn't cooling properly. I was told it was $1000 to replace an actuator. I declined. I came back from dealership with a cracked dash around the passenger air bag. Apparently this and the faulty air bag are well known issues. So because GM doesn't have the part, I can't get my airbag fixed and the cracked dash make my vehicle less safe.
Our truck has a crack/hole in the dash, right side. A/C "recycle" air doesn't work from day one; constantly smell exhaust. Rear 60/40 seat rattles whether up/down. Front passenger door outside handle broke; cheap quality plastic; seat cushion bottom not holding up, already worn. Moisture in the white reverse lights.
Shortly after purchasing my 2010 Silverado a small crack appeared on the dash by the corner of the passenger air bag. A month or so later another crack developed above the instrument cluster that is now (years later) a foot in length. There is a 3rd crack developing. I have 3 friends with similar trucks and these cracks occurred in the identical spot on their dashs. It has to be a risk to the airbag, or in any front impact. These cracks are sharp and right in the driver and passengers face. After searching online I have discovered it is a widespread issue.
Dash is cracked around passenger airbag and above gauge cluster. This is a hazard for airbag deployment. This needs to be considered for recall as it has impacted many of the models during specific date range starting in 2007.
My dash on my truck has cracks in the dash by the airbag and above the gauge cluster. I am worried if Chevrolet does not do a voluntary recall on this there is a chance that the airbag may not function properly.
I have cracks on my passenger side airbag, and over my instrument cluster. This is a well known issue, and I'm sure that if my airbag went off, the plastic would become shrapnel.
Three cracks around the passenger airbag. First cracked appeared about 60,000 miles followed by the next smaller one then around 85,000 the larger one. This appears to be a common problem that GM is aware of but is not accepting responsibility for the potential safety hazard.
Plastic dash has cracks around airbag and above steering column. If I was to have a accident and the airbag deployed there would be plastic shrapnel deployed throughout the vehicle.
The dashboard is cracked in 3 places around the airbag. This could potentially be a safety hazard if the airbag were to deploy sending projectile pieces of plastic towards the occupants of the vehicle. The cracks in the dashboard formed due to an obvious design flaw. There was no incident that caused the cracks just normal driving.
