General Motors USA produced several years of vehicles with a faulty transmission control module (TCM). From 2008-25 Chevrolet and GMC trucks with the 6.6L Duramax engine and Allison 1000 transmission all used the same TCM; part 24256861. This part has experienced a very high failure rate. GM has put out Service Bulletins acknowledging this issue and has not made a recall. Safety concerns with the TCM are related to overheating. I have a 2010 Chev Duramax 2500 with that TCM; on July 16, 2022 my truck was taken in for repairs due to the failure of the TCM. For 14 months the truck has been down due to no new parts available from GM and no parts being manufactured in 2022. This has been a substantial impact to me as a consumer. There is a need for new improved parts for this long-standing faulty TCM issue. The lack of recall on this TCM is subjecting consumers to risks of overheating the transmission system as well as incalculable down-time impacts related to personal and business owned trucks. This problem of the faulty TCM on my truck was confirmed by the local auto repair shop I use as well as the local Chevrolet dealership in Delta, CO. The TCM, will long known problems acknowledged by GM, needs to be on a recall for consumer protection.

I got a code p2138 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch. Upon doing my own research on this code I found out it is a manufacture defect. And they are aware this is caused because the manufacturer did not seal the antenna correctly so water gets in and damages wires and sensors

The vehicle is having electrical issues and it effects it by shutting off in the middle of traffic on a highway it also effects the throttle sensor by accelerating when you come to a stop at a stop light and the transmission jumps a gear when it does that.

Truck purchased by my father in 2010 from Chevrolet dealership. I purchased the truck from him in 2016. The truck has under 120,000 miles and due to faulty engine and sensors the vehicle has seized leaving me with thousands in repair and no vehicle. Thr vehicle broke down on me with my children several times losing pwoer, shaking uncontrollably. There was oil and the pressure unit did not read low or shut the truck down.. my truck also has an airbag recall from 2016 that there is no remedy for. I still make payments on this vehicle and it is extremely unsafe costing thousands for repair. GM should be responsible for faulty vehicles.

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle began to hesitate. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and drove home. The vehicle was taken to Liberty Chevrolet (105 cooley way, villa rica, ga 30180) where it was determined that the transmission failed and needed replacement. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

While driving on highway at 65-70 mph, electrical system shut down the tachometer, speedometer, fuel and all other gauges. Lights and turn signals remained on. Transmission downshifted and would not shift up after a complete stop. Shifting transmission to park, reverse or neutral would not register, but would shift. Service engine, ABS light and stabilitrak off light came on. On a separate occasion message center read service traction control, service stabilitrak on a similar occurrence, while coming to a stop. This has occurred several times. Drove home, without speedometer and miles did not register on odometer.

My husband and I were driving about 45 mph down a steep hill, towing a utility trailer, on SR87 in the mountains when the door locks clicked and the engine turned completely off with no warning. The steering wheel locked up and the brakes did not work. My husband put the car in neutral as it accelerated down a cliff and attempted to restart it with no luck. There were no cars immediately around us so we were able to coast to a stop on a steep incline. When we got out to check it, there was oil all over the wheel wells and still no warning lights had come on. We took it to the dealership and they told us the transmission was completely blown on our 6 year old truck. There was zero explanation as to why this would happen as well as to why we had no warning prior to the engine shutting off. We were told to pay better attention to the temp. Even though it did not overheat. Chevy offered no relief or help. We were quoted a price about $2000 less for the initial transmission repair than it would have cost so we took it to a non-dealership shop to repair. This weekend, the check engine light came on out of nowhere indicating loss of power and the stabilitrack warning came on even thought that was previously repaired by a dealership on a tsb about a year prior to the transmission going out. The code it threw this time was P0305 and we were on very limited power driving back home from a road trip. Could not go more than 40 mph uphill. Extremely concerned for our safety since the vehicle can turn off with no warning. Also, the money spent is ridiculous.

Transmission makes clunking noises when shifting at 25,33 &46 mph. Sometimes there is a very loud clunk from the transmission. This has been occurring ever since we had 24000 miles on the vehicle. Current miles 59000mi. GM dealerships could not verify the noises. One dealer changed the tcm and torque converter. Very same noises within the same week of the change. Still happening.

Heard a ticking noise coming from under hood of vehicle while pulling away from fast food establishment. Pulled over to find that transmission dipstick tube had fractured. Went home and found that GM had issued a "customer care bulletin" back in 2012 about this issue. However, I received no letter about this problem. I contacted GM this morning and they refuse to fix the problem under this "bulliten". this should not be a "bulletin", but should be a recall since it involves potential problems with the transmission. A dipstick tube fracture can lead to water, dirt, and other contaminants getting into the transmission causing failure that could result in accidents causing serious injuries or death.

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado. While driving 55 mph on the highway, the contact smelled an abnormal odor coming from under the vehicle. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. The contact opened the hood and noticed flames. The flames extinguished itself after 15 minutes. The contact proceeded to drive the vehicle once it cooled down. The contact discovered transmission oil leaking and stated that the transmission gear was slipping from each gear. The vehicle became inoperable and was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission line needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 51,000.

This truck is less than 4 years in my ownership (bought new). This winter I saw red dots in the snow and low and behold the transmission lines are leaking. A $300 bill not covered under warrantee. Seems the rubber ends do not like cold weather but yet they are allowed to sell this vehicle in a state with cold weather. I have also had the air-conditioning compressor give out and it was not covered under warranty a $1000 repair. I have also had the bumper replace because it rusted through in the first years, at least it was covered under warrantee.

I purchased this vehicle at a somewhat reliable local dealership only to have the vehicle in and out of the shop a total of 6 months for the first year and a half of my ownership. The problem with the vehicle has been, and still is, the transmission and it's ability to slip in and out of gear at random. At intersections, stops and starts, as well as in movement the transmission will disengage and slam into gear with a loud clunking noise and jerking action. On an incline, it will actually roll backwards thus forcing the need to constantly cover the brake for this concern. The service manager at the dealership says he has done all he can do and GM insist that this is normal for the transmission to work this way. They even issued a copy of a memo to the dealership about this. They have assured me that if anything were to happen with the transmission it would be covered. Forget about creating an accident, or my wife or myself getting killed! I figure this a very unsafe vehicle and will probably have to get rid of it before it gets rid of me or somebody else unless GM fixes it and makes it right. Economically I'm not in a good position to just get rid of it because I owe so much on it but even if I did an unsafe vehicle is put back into circulation for somebody else to deal with. On another note, the service manager's shared with that his father bought a 2013 Chevrolet truck with the same problem and had the transmission slam into gear the same way mine did while he was pulling away from a toll booth while towing a boat back from Connecticut. Consequently, this appears to be a problem spanning additional years as well. Clearly a defective design in drive train. Please consider investigating this issue and make GM responsible for addressing this issue other than issuing a memo and turning their heads the other way. There might be many lives save by taking action now.
