At low speeds coming to a complete stop, the ABS braking system will function and pulse causing an extended braking distance. Along with it being a safety issue it is also an annoying nuisance always hearing the loud pulsing of the ABS brakes.

While trying to stop vehicle, while brake pedal engaged, brakes released and lost braking power, continuing to go forward with very limited ability to stop the vehicle. Stopping of vehicle was achieved by continuing multiple times to re-engage the brakes each time the brakes released and lost power. Dealership inspected and tested the brakes. They found both front ABS sensors dropping out due to the same problem as the Chevrolet recall for Silverado models up to year 2002, corrosion in the braking system. They followed the procedure outlined in the recall. Because my 2006 was not in the recall, I paid $165 for the work. I contacted Chevrolet and they will not reimburse my expense unless they extend the recall. An internet search reveals other owners of Silverado manufactured after 2002 are also having the problem. NHTSA should be pushing Chevrolet to extend the recall because it is a very dangerous problem and it's not isolated to just a few vehicles.

The ABS system in my 2006 Chevy Silverado does not function properly at low speed. The ABS activates when braking causing the vehicle to travel further when coming to a stop. After researching the problem on the internet I found that this is an ongoing issue with GMC vehicles.

A problem exist with my 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 lt. When braking at low speeds, the low speed sensor causes the ABS system to engage. When the ABS system engages, the vehicle does not stop where intended. The vehicle travels around 5 feet further then it would under normal braking conditions, depending on speed. This happens only at low speeds(under 10mph) and every time the vehicle attempts to come to a complete stop. I have not tried to repair the problem. I have been told by a mechanic that the low speed sensors are dirty, and need to be cleaned or replaced. I have found other people complaining of this same problem with this model of vehicle. I feel this is a safety concern, do to a possibility of delayed braking. Although I have not been personally involved in an accident, I am concerned that this problem exists. Delayed braking can cause a vehicle to be involved in rear-end collisions, or to unintentionally enter intersections.

The ABS system has been kicking on when it isn't necessary. The brakes surge when coming to a stop and feel mushy. I have already had the brakes replaced and the drums in the back are good. I only have 70K on the truck and as far as I know, speaking with various mechanics, that I shouldn't be having these issues. It started all of a sudden, didn't give any indication that there was an issue.

Winter of 09-10 experienced activation of antilock brakes at speeds of 5mph or lower nearly every braking opportunity. After the truck glided part way into an intersection (antilock pump activated but no stopping occurred, just pedal resistance) I removed the ABS fuse to regain standard brakes. Nothing more has been done.

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving at speeds of 10 mph applying the brakes, there was an unusual noise coming from the brakes. There was also an increase in stopping distance. The failure would occur intermittently and the contact took the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnosis of the failure. The dealer serviced the brakes and advised the contact that there was no lubricant applied to the brakes to prevent potential corrosion. The failure mileage was 23,000 and the current mileage was 24,600.

Low speed activation of ABS braking system causing extended stopping distances and/or no stopping at all. No ABS system codes set. No ABS light comes on. Dealer checked it out and said the front ABS sensors were bad. I replaced both sensors, with the same problem existing, if not worse. The left sensor is available, but the right one was broken during removal and thrown away. I did not know I would need it. This happens every time the vehicle is driven and the brakes applied at low speed to come to a stop. There was a recall for earlier models of my vehicle and I believe my model year should be included as well as others. This is a dangerous situation. I think it should be repaired, recalled or resolved to the complete satisfaction of all involved!

2006 Silverado 1500. Unintended low speed ABS activation. When coming to a stop, the ABS activates when not neccesary, dry/clean pavement. This causes an increase in stopping distance by 15-20 feet making rear end collision inevitable. I notified GM, they stated there was a recall for exactly the problem I described, but my vehicle does not fall within the model year involved, I asked if they were going to expand the recall, I was told "no". the ABS activation also happens when I slow down to pull into my driveway....the activation is becoming more frequent and happens at speed of 10 mph and below....it is just a matter of tome before someone gets hurt. Everybody is jumping all over Toyota about the prius brakes, yet GM gets away with thiers.

2006 Chevy 1500 pickup with 37,000 miles antilock brakes always on causing longer stopping distances. Had brakes repaired twice. 2006 Chevy Silverado truck front ABS antilock sensors failed due to corrosion GM had a recall 08/30/2005 for same problem on 2002 models, they knew about this in 05 (when my truck was built) but only admit to 2002 models NHTSA campaign # 05V37900 - think this needs to be extended to all models they built this way.
