Brake lines bursting due to faulty (cheap) material. I have owned several Chevy trucks without any problems but this is the worst I have ever seen. Looks like all lines will need to be replaced. They are made from cheap material.
Brake pedal went to floor as I pulled out of my drive.. so as I looked to see what it was, 1 brake line was leaking due to corrosion an split. Another line close to splitting. All 4 rusted bad.
Attempted to stop at stop sign and bake line between master cylinder and prop valve ruptured instantly draining brake fluid resulting in no braking. Stopped vehicle with parking brake. Upon inspection, determined that brake line had rusted out as a result of being mounted on top of frame rail where dirt, salt and moisture collect from front wheel spray.

While doing an oil change on my 2005 pu I noticed enough buildup of rust on the brake lines that I stopped driving the truck. I have had pu trucks (Ford) since 1972 and never had an issue with brake lines although I had the trucks for 10 yrs. This is a serious issue of negligence of GM. I am 75 and never had this issue although I had cars and trucks (and motorcycles) since I was 16. I believe this is more serious than ignition switch. Thank you
Approaching a traffic light at the bottom of a steep graded highway, I noticed the brake pedal felt spungey and near the bottom the brake pedal went clear to the floor board. I was forced to leave the highway to prevent a rear end collision with the stopped vehicle in front of me resulting in no real damage to the vehicle itself. It could have been much worse. The brake lines (4 of them) have rusted out so much that they could not contain pressure of the fluid when applying the brake and bursted. My mechanic tells me this will be in excess of $600 to repair do to the cab having to be unbolted and lifted from the chassis to access the lines for replacing. He also tells me that many GM models, new and old have this problem with rusting brake lines. GM is aware of these problems. Why has this not been addressed" why have these models not been recalled" Subaru recently recalled over 660,000 vehicles for the same problem; #doingtherightthing. I am not at all happy about this.
While doing an oil change on my 2005 pu Silverado I noticed large rust build up on the brake lines' this is not through neglect on my part, but is sufficient enough to cause serious concern. My son in law with Chevy 2002 had a similar problem when his brakes failed on a hill which caused me to check mine.this is extremely dangerous and GM should bear the recall expense. While driving I lost all brake pressure and was unable to control the speed of my truck, at the service shop I was shown that the brake lines were extremely corroded and had failed.
Driving down highway road when several deer ran in front of vehicle. Slammed on brakes and the pedal, after a few seconds, went to the floor. Noticed big puddle of fluid the next day under cab of truck. Started truck and had no brakes at all. Had the truck inspected by local repair shop and was informed that all of the brake lines were rusty beyond the point of repair. Had to have a whole new brake line kit installed.
I bought the truck new in 2005, it has been a piece of junk from the start, I have had multiple problems with this truck, replaced both front rotors & hubs, the dealership said this was normal but I think that it is just normal for a junky Chevrolet, the main power supply plug on the heater motor melted off and would no longer work, front speakers quite working, front brake lines rusted away and the reservoir was dry and the brake light on the dash never came on for a warning, had to replace all brake lines on the front end of the vehicle, brakes are very weak and most of the time the pedal is very soft and goes to the floor and scares me to death, you don't think that the truck is going to stop, this brake issue is a very big problem !!!, several people that I know have the same model truck have the save exact issues, I will never in my life time buy another Chevrolet product as long as I live and I spread this info with anyone who might even think of buying a Chevrolet, don't do it, they are junk !!!!!!!!!!!!
On 7/1/2011, my 2005 Chevy Silverado lost brakes. The loss of brakes was caused by a leak from a corroded section of brake line. I had that section of the line replaced and continued to drive. On 6/12/2012, the same thing happened to another section of the brake line. The corroded line split and brake fluid was gushing out. Luckily, on both occasions I was able to stop my vehicle before crashing into someone or something. When I had my vehicle towed to my mechanic, he said that the brake lines were so corroded that he would recommend replacing the entire line for safety. I also had an opportunity to look at the lines and was in complete agreement with the mechanic. My vehicle at the time of the first incident was 6 years old and had 57,751 miles on it. The second incident occurred about a year later and the mileage was 62,719.
Rear brake line appeared rusty and scaly, then when hit my brakes, the pedal went to the floor. I used emergency brake. I replaced rear brake line. All other lines appeared rusty and scaly. Now, my front left brake line is beginning to weep; it's moist and it glistens with oil. I will have to replace it soon. All the other lines in the truck appear to be the same, rusty and scaly. I will no doubt have to continue to replace each line.
After I backed out of my driveway I started down the street and when I applied the brakes the brake pedal started to pulse and I had to really push hard to get the truck to slow down. Above 35 mph the brakes worked fine. This is the second time this vehicle has been for this same trouble. It happened around 20,000 miles and the dealer took care of the problem. The problem is the ABS sensor. It gets dirty and either has to be cleaned or replaced. This can be very dangerous at slow speeds, under 35 mph. I was told there are no recalls. It was repaired at a Chevrolet dealer.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start accompanied by the illumination of the check engine warning light. The failure was recurring and sporadic. Additionally, the instrument panel failed and the head lights would sporadically fail. The contact also stated that the rotors needed to be replaced on a regular basis. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who was not able to diagnose the multiple failures. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 1000.
When I applying the brakes the peddle went to the floor. Upon having it towed to cover Chevrolet windber pa. 15963 I was informed that the brake lines were rotted and would need replaced.
I bought a 2005 Silverado from my mother, and she bought the truck off of a used dealer lot purchasing for 12,500 four years ago. Since then the truck has had an air bag sensor replaced and it once again showing the air bag needs serviced, which can be very dangerous to truck owners in situations of a crash. Was told they go out commonly. The truck has also had an ABS issue since it was purchased on the lot, we sent it back to be fixed, and the issue was never solved, it has been looked at by three technicians. This is also a public safety hazard if the ABS causes the brakes to fail. The truck also has numerous electrical issues, such as the gear selector does not illuminate, in which case someone may not be able to determine what gear they are in and cause an incident, the headlight, tail light, brake light, and marker lights are always blowing bulbs, the dash cluster doesn't always want to illuminate either, this could cause a crash especially at dark when you cannot see the RPM, speedo, oil press, temp, or any other gage present.
Had just made a left turn onto my street, approximate speed about 5 mph. After the left turn was made, I proceeded about 200 feet to my driveway. Upon pulling in, I attempted to stop and the pedal went to the floor. The brakes were not hit abruptly however there was snow on the ground. Moving at 10 mph when coming to a stop, the truck did not slide but eventually stopped, without incident. After parking the truck, 20 minutes later I decided to see if it was still the same or if this was just a "fluke" (no the ABS light did not come on when parking). So as I opened the drivers side door, I looked down and noticed the snow was a golden/bluish color. I looked underneath the truck and saw brake fluid dripping slowly onto the ground. The leak is coming from under the drivers side door, near where the group of brake lines is located. I checked out possible fixes online and noticed I am not the only one with this complaint. It was suggested I file this complaint, which I am glad I did so. This needs to be addressed before someone is not as lucky as I was (pulling into my driveway at a slow speed). Thank you.
