Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss 5.3L V8

At 19,220 miles my engine experienced catastrophic lifter failure in cylinder #8. While traveling at approximately 55-60 mph, the truck began running extremely rough and a Service Parking Brake and Service ESC message appeared on the dash along with several warning lights including a flashing check engine light. After having the vehicle towed to the dealership, it was determined that a lifter over extended causing the valve to make contact with the piston. This broke the valve and cracked the piston and took a chunk out of the cylinder wall. The dealership replaced the entire engine under warranty.

If you're having trouble getting your GM vehicle fixed, call 877 558 8352. Yes the failed lifter was a pain, but it was fully covered under warranty.

I have only one complaint and that is that from the date of failure I was without my truck for 37 days. This was not a GM problem; rather it was the dealer who could not make the repair in a timely manner. I called GM at 877 558 8352 to report the delays in getting my truck fixed.

Long story short, I called the number above and a real person actually answered the phone. She took my info and opened a case file and said a case worker would call me within 2 business days. Alisa called within 2 days! I explained the delays and she said she would check into it and keep me posted. She called me twice per week to update me and was very supportive. AND, she said because I had no truck for 37 days that GM would make my monthly payment. I sent in the requested information and within 2 weeks I received a check from GM for $608.00!

GM, that was some damn fine service! Thank you.

Babied this truck for 8K miles, it's one year old, and then just driving down the road it started to miss ever so slightly, hardly noticeable at first, then worse and worse, all within 3-4 miles. Then an occasional hard knocking, I thought I threw a rod. Had it towed to the dealer to learn they think it's the lifter failure problem. They knew about it, GM knew about, but they didn't mention it during the sale last year. They're saying a couple of weeks for the parts but how much damage is there really?
