CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 has an early trend of the transmission shifting hard, surging & jerking.
At the moment these trucks are still under warranty. However this transmission problem shows up right away with the average reported mileage only around 3,000 miles, so for now the 2017 Silverado earns our "Beware of the Clunker" badge.
Motor is consuming over 3 quarts of oil at 14,000 miles. This is not a usual break in. I have replaced the oil three times as I really take care of my trucks. I am having an oil consumption test run by the local dealership Martin Chevrolet. They want it to run 1000 miles and retest it. I checked at 500 miles and the oil was already over one quart of oil. This engine is not good and will need to be replaced.
Horrible for a brand new truck. Have owned a Ford Truck since 2004 with 200,000 miles and no issues.
I have a few ongoing issues with this truck that remain unsolved.
Rough idle - shake, loss of power that seems like engine misfiring or fouled plug which results in hesitation and engine sputter, especially on highway during slight acceleration and on inclines. Engine sometimes starts with a hard shake like it misfired during cranking Transmission or drive train clunk during stops and slow moving and stop and go traffic congestion, excessive oil consumption 1-2 quarts between oil changes (2 since new). Currently at 46% oil life and oil is down over a quart. Dealer states no problem found with rough idle or loss of power, Last service the transmission was reprogrammed and the transmission oil and filter were changed. Service tech also mentioned the factory specified using a different tranny fluid that I believe was from a service bulletin. The service tech said to drive a few hundred miles for the new program to adjust and see if it helped with the drive train bang/clunk. I can say I have noticed some improvement in the frequency the banging will occur but it does still happen.
I also want to mention I traded in my 2014 silverado 5.3L LTZ after 40K miles and the recommendation of a service tech. The 2014 had the same transmission issues that were never resolved and severe oil consumption that lead to having the pistons, rings and engine partially rebuilt under warranty.
