CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 has an early trend of the transmission shifting hard, surging & jerking.

At the moment these trucks are still under warranty. However this transmission problem shows up right away with the average reported mileage only around 3,000 miles, so for now the 2017 Silverado earns our "Beware of the Clunker" badge.

It happens intermittently.. as I slow up to a speed under 10 miles an hour, as soon as I turn the steering wheel, the vehicle will lose power, either turning off and on fast the dash will lose power but the motor will still be running... sherry this happens, the steering feels like theres resistance turning and the only way to fix it is to turn off the vehicle and let it sit. Other times it will happen and the vehicle will lose total power, almost like I removed the key but the vehicle will still be rolling. The steering wheel has locked twice all while the vehicle is still in motion as well and brakes are non functioning. Its happened several times going through intersections, pulling into my driveway, and U turns. It never happens in reverse. Ill never own a Chevy again...

The engine block heater cord was recalled on my 2017 Chevy duramax diesel. I brought my truck to my local dealership on August 21, 2019 for the recall and the cord was simply cut off. At that time there was not a remedy for the recall. I called Chevrolet customer assistance today, November 12, 2019, to check on this recall as the temperature in Kansas is becoming very cold and I am needing the engine block heater. I spoke with sabrina and her supervisor michael who both informed me the new engine block heater cord has been released to cold weather states, not Kansas. The only way for me to get the cord for my truck would be to drive to Colorado, the closest state to Kansas that the cord has been released to. Colorado is over 8 hours from me, not to mention the temperature is currently colder in Kansas than Colorado. This is just very frustrating, I paid for the engine block heater on my truck so I can use it. I got notice of this recall in may of 2019, now it's November with very cold weather and the issue has not been resolved.

Fuel injector or fuel pump does not work properly. On two (2) different occasions, months apart, my engine has lost power and the vehicle stalled. Both times at low speeds 10 - 15 mph and low rpms. This has nearly caused me to crash into one vehicle and for another to almost hit me from behind as my car died while making a right hand turn off a busy road. I have had the vehicle towed in twice, but the dealership and GM both say unless they can duplicate the issue they will not fix or replace anything. This vehicle is unsafe and needs to be recalled/reviewed. On top of this, they had to replace the vacuum pump for the brakes and do a software patch update because the backup camera was dangerously bright, especially at night. The camera issue took 2 visits to 2 different dealerships to get resolved. GM is playing the numbers game of hoping for a fine instead of paying to replace any parts. Especially since they are dealing with a pr battle about making cars outside of the usa. They took the bailout money and screwed americans.

The contact owned a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado. When the contact pulled into his driveway and plugged in the block heater, the vehicle caught fire a few minutes later in the engine compartment. The contact placed the vehicle into neutral to move it away from his house. The fire department was called and extinguished the flames. The vehicle was destroyed. Both the manufacturer and insurance company sent fire investigators to examine the vehicle. The contact submitted a fire report to his insurance company. A police report was filed. Both investigators stated that it could take up to 90 days to report their findings. The insurance company offered a buyout for the total loss of the vehicle; however, the contact wanted to see what the manufacturer would offer. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 24,500...

The engine is unable to receive consistent fuel when you start the vehicle. It requires pushing down on the gas pedal multiple times and restarts to get the engine going. Then, while driving the engine loses fuel and causes the vehicle to turn off and essentially die. This has put me in 2 near wreck incidents already despite the GM dealerships saying there is no issue.

The pickup shakes at speeds typically between 30-45 and 55-75. It shakes hard enough and long enough at times where at higher speeds becomes dangerous because it compromises the steering where the truck can come off its line and become unstable. It will also shake randomly and for unknown periods of time. When it starts I have no control over it and no control over when it starts or stops. I have brought it into the dealer a couple times now. The first time they said I needed to rebalance the wheels and put on new tires so I did both. The second time they said it was a problem with the engine/drivetrain when it deactivates 4 cylinders. They told me there is nothing they can do for this problem. I have researched this and it seems that it is a problem with this specific engine and GM is claiming there is not a safety issue. This is completely false as the truck becomes unstable and steering is compromised. At highway speeds this is a huge issue especially if this continues into winter months where road conditions are not the best.

6.2L engine had faulty injectors and had to be replaced. GM said my truck had a warranty block so I had to contact the BBB and go to mediation to get injectors replaced. Now I'm noticing a shudder (vibration) while driving with a fluttering of the RPM's. all my research has led me to believe it is a faulty torque converter. My wife has a 2017 camaro that is having the same issue. Dealership stated that they are replacing the faulty torque converters in vehicles with 8 speed transmission, but will not replace mine because GM has put a block on my warranty. GM cannot provide any evidence giving them reason to block my warranty on my vehicle.

Engine hesitation, or misfiring. Jerking, or transmission shuttering when engine is at low RPM and on incline. (I.e. when traveling about 45mph and start up a hill, the RPM's are about 1300, and the transmission doesn't gear down, so it starts shuttering until you give it more acceleration than usual.) after dealing with this issue for nearly 8 months and 15K miles, I believe this safety issue should be recalled. Dealer originally acknowledge the problem but was unsure of the cause. After 5 repair attempts the dealer say they can't duplicate and the vehicle performs as designed.
