CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 has an early trend of the transmission shifting hard, surging & jerking.
At the moment these trucks are still under warranty. However this transmission problem shows up right away with the average reported mileage only around 3,000 miles, so for now the 2017 Silverado earns our "Beware of the Clunker" badge.

I spent 40k cash for my 2017 high country to find out GM great idea of AFM and no good 10 speed transmission/torque converter was made with low quality and careless parts. I'm definitely getting me a lawyer to fix this [XXX] because all I've ever wanted was this body style but all they care about is money over quality. GM and they're retail sellers knew about AFW problems and sold us [XXX] anyway. They are saying that transmission issues aren't they're fault and actually getting away with that answer. Who's else fault could it be when it's the same problem with the same model. To be an American and get [XXX] by our own is getting old. If I can get sold [XXX] I can at least get a shovel with it...so I'm getting a damn good shovel/lawyer. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Transmission jerks, surges ahead, clunks when downshifting and is completely unpredictable. Checked transmission fluid and everything is good. This is a serious issue as you never know what-??s going to happen
The transmission in my truck completely failed on a busy road during rush hour. I was in stop and go traffic and after one of my stops the truck wouldn-??t move Luckily I was in the right hand lane and about 150 feet from the entrance to a parking lot and a stranger helped me push it to that lot. I had it towed to the dealership I bought it at The recite they gave me says -?? transmission pump has failed and burnt clutches-??. I have never pulled a trailer and only had 78,000 miles on my truck
Shifting was noticeable with a hesitation. Dealership said it was normal. Developed into a shudder while driving. Shudder came up with transmission code and decreased power. Not driveable. Miles are less than 108k
Bought 4/2023 at 98326 mileage. At 7/23 major issues take place trying to drive. Taken to original dealer where purchased, at 102581. Had to replace the air conditioner and throttle body plus equaling over $3000. I had bought extended warranty at $3384. Now at 139000 miles the transmission is gone!!!

I have a tork converter that locking the transmission and causing the truck to down shift and sometimes comes to a quick stop when braking. I am afraid if a family member drives the truck it could cause them to make a dangerous move in on goin traffic. Or not stopping and hitting a person or another vehicle. It hits hard and stops while pulling the vehicle in on coming traffic especially when not exspecting it all of a sudden.

My 2017 Chevy Silverado was giving me minor issues about two weeks previously, I was coming on the road and hear like something broken in pieces. I stop at the light and when I was to go forward to continue my with driving the truck was going backwards.. so scary thanks God, I didn't press the acceleration fast I would it have hit the car on back of me. I set emergency lights and call for help.. truck was moved from the road and brought back home. Please look into this safety issue.
The transmission lost every gear but 1st, 2nd. I was driving it down the highway when it lost the gear putting myself, other motor vehicles, and pedestrians safety at risk. The transmissions are known to by others and gm to lose gears or blow and no recall has been issued to rectify the issues. the vehicle was scanned by a trusted local auto motive shop. there were no warning lamps messages or other symptoms prior to the failure. It was going down the road then slipped/sputtered, dropping in to second gear then the checking engine light came on.
I bought my 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 RST used almost 2 years ago. I noticed shortly after buying it that the truck will stall in low gear then lunge forward unexpectedly, it didn't do it all the time just once in a while. Problem is it seems to be happening more frequently and varies in severity. I've asked the local GM dealerships about this issue several times while having it in for service or oil changes. But was told each time that its common with that transmission and nothing to be concerned about, the problem is that I am. I recently started doing research on this and noticed I'm not the only one having these same issues. I'm filing a report as it worries me that a vehicle I'm making payments on is acting this way. I'm also concerned that with the truck in drive and moving, without warning then lunges forward could cause myself or someone else serious injury or worse. This I believe is not the fault of the owner/driver, but GM itself. This problem is not an isolated issue, but one shared by many consumers, me included.
experienced several years of misfire problems, replaced spark plugs twice which seemed to fix the problem short term. while out of my home state(retraining for a new job in the Airforce) the misfire became significantly worse and made the truck undrivable. brought the truck to a local mechanic and they told me that I had bad misfires on the AFM/DOD cylinders and need to replace them all. chevy confirmed the diagnosis also stated there not going to offer coverage for this know issue. this know failure has costed me 15k in total costs when GM has know about this for years and could have fixed it before costing me so much money. I've also received no help from the chevy dealership or corporate regarding this know problem and I've been told its going to be an out of pocket repair and there's noting they will dop to help.
6L80 transmission delay of gear engagement. Gears slipping from 1st to 2nd to 3rd. Hard gear engagement when accelerating. RPM-??s rev higher when transmission is shifting.

The dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The dealer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure reoccurred at a stop light on the same day. The contact stated that the vehicle was only able to be shifted and functioned in reverse(R). The following day while attempting to accelerate while idling, the vehicle failed to operate. The vehicle was turned and restarted but failed to shift into gear. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage 88,000.
Recently had to have the transmission replaced on my truck. I was driving on an on-ramp onto a highway and my transmission would not change gears once reaching 50mph, where the speed limit was 70mph, causing me to almost be rear-ended. This was without warning, no lights came on and no other conditions were noticed prior to this event. I pulled off the highway and the transmission was making hard shuddering noises. I had a dealership look it over and they determined I needed a full transmission replacement. Upon researching online, this appears to be a common problem for this vehicle.
My 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 5.3l V8 has a common transmission failure. The torque converter started malfunctioning under 100,000 miles. I kept a good maintenance and was not expecting a transmission rebuilt. The truck almost cause an accident due to loss of acceleration and gears at the freeway speeds of 70mph.
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the vehicle jerked while accelerating and while braking. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times while driving. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the transmission had failed and needed to be rebuilt. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
I am fully aware of of GM-??s Hydra-Matic 8L90 transmission or Hydra-Matic 8L45 transmission on the 2015-2019 models. My wife was driving with our kids on the highway yesterday and the trucks immediate shaking, increased high RPMs, slow acceleration and violent downshifting. Scared them very much on the highway while going at the normal speeds of 65mph trying weave through traffic and make it back home on top of that. With zero warning and this having happened on my first 2011 Chevy Silverado as well. I know full well there are more class action lawsuits against GM. Them being allowed to get away with this consistent problem and not owning up to their failed products is unacceptable.
