My power steering quits working, my dash lights go off, my A/C or Heater turns off, my headlights flicker and it happens out of nowhere while driving. This is downright dangerous!

I have taken it to two dealerships and they both tell me they can't find the problem.

The amount of money these trucks are valued at tells me I only bought a coffin on wheels and I am playing Russian roulette with not only my life, but others on the road as well. I cannot believe GMC is not on this like flies on s***. There are peoples' lives in their products that could die - it is time, past time to resolve the problem. I may as well go buy a ticket to fly in a Boeing 737. My truck is at the shop, as at this time it died on the road 12-29-2019 and they acted like this is the first time they have heard of this. PLEASE blow that up someone else's ass.

After driving for 35 minutes, I went to turn and everything went off in the middle of turn. I almost hit a car, and had to restart. This isn't the first time it has happened.

While pulling into my parking spot, in order to back in off the street, my truck lost electric power, the motor did not shut off. I lost everything on the dash, then it came back in a couple seconds. This is the second time this has happened. First time was July 4 pulling into the walmart parking lot. I looked today and tightened my battery cables to the battery. There was not much I actually tightened them. This is a significant safety issue in my eyes.

Truck will shut down at any given time while driving. I believe it to be a grounding problem. Headlights will flicker, radio shuts off briefly and turns back on. I have checked various blogs and sites to find a fix to no avail. Chevy can't fix what it can't see. Can't believe Chevy is clueless about this problem. There is making money and there is doing what is right.

I have had nothing but trouble with this vehicle, first it was the Chevy shake and I was told by the dealership that this is normal. So it is still doing this and then it was the LCD monitor going off and on. I had it fixed and 5 months later it is back to doing it again and you have to hit the dash to make it stop flashing.

Now this is the third time when driving this piece of shi# - if you turn a corner to the left this thing will just shut off and then I have to disconnect the battery and ground out the positive terminal to clear the computer and then it usually starts after this. As of today, it only has 42000 miles on it.

I have seen other complaints about this issue and have contacted dealers. They tell me that I have already had the "Electronic Steering" Update. However, I have continued to complain, urge for a repair, only to be told it was a grounding issue with add on electric item. After reading through complaints, I know this is not the case. My truck when operating at lower speeds, parking lot, slowing in turn lane or at a light for example will lose all power (it flickers)including losing power steering sometimes it recovers other times the truck will shut down.

I have had others in the car with me and they are very concerned about this as well. I would like for Chevy to either repair the issue or offer a suggestion for repair. Dealers can not seem to diagnose and I know I am not the only occurrence.

Silverado 1500 LTZ V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

We just purchased this vehicle. We haven't even had it 4 months and my husband was driving down the road and all the electrical stuff in the dash keeps shorting out. He puts on the breaks and the lights flicker and all of the stuff in the dash goes black and loses power then it comes right back on with a whole lot of warnings....stabilitrac lost...park assist off...drive assist off....rolling up the windows he lost power.....backing up lost power....he tries to turn left or right and loses power and the steering wheel jerked out of his hand and back the opposite direction towards oncoming traffic. He can also be sitting still in the driveway turn the wheel and it does and the electrical does the same thing. This is going to kill someone and no one at Chevy even cares. We went to Midas today and had a scan done and it said it was throwing 17 different electrical codes. We pay 37 thousand dollars for this vehicle and Chevy won't cover or help with sh*t. If we can get rid if this piece of sh*t and its problems Ford here we come.

vehicle shuts down while driving

I have a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS with the 4.3L V6 engine and close to 58k miles on it. Yesterday (July 7, 2019) I was coming home from my son's baseball tournament, family on board, it was about a 200 mile round trip.

On the way home my audio/entertainment/phone receiver display was randomly flickering off and on as I was driving. When I got about 1 mile from my house I was making a left turn at about 10-15 mph and all power completely shut down in the vehicle midway through the turn. The first thing I noticed was the power steering being jerked from my hands, the steering had frozen mid turn, the engine power was completely off and I drifted into the corn field on the side of the road with absolutely no way to control the vehicle. There was on coming traffic but luckily it was far enough out to avoid collision (this time anyway).

Just about every on dash display light flickered back on and I was able to start the vehicle and continue home about 30 seconds after coming to a stop.I had a "Service Trailer Brake System" message displayed (photo should be attached) on the information/dashboard display. I wasn't hauling anything and very rarely do. In the past, the receiver display had flickered on and off and I'd have a "Service Stabilitrak" message displayed in the information center of the dash display.

This has happened before last summer of 2018. It seems to happen when its hot out (85-90+ degrees), the AC is on, and driving distances of 50 miles or more. I notice currently that when I stop to back into a parking space, my power steering is malfunctioning and its very difficult to turn the steering wheel. This happens daily and regardless of the season or outside temperature. I have taken the truck to a Chevy dealer and of course, unless they see the issue happen themselves, they have no way to diagnose it.

With as much computer technology on board vehicles these days, I find it hard to believe a technician cannot find some sort of error or log file that would help detect the problem. The dealer service rep also said they had never heard of this issue happening before. This I find very hard to believe. Anyone that googles "2015 Chevy Silverado loses power steering and engine stalls while driving" will find many of the same exact scenarios I just explained. On this web site alone (carcomplaints.com) there are many of the same exact scenarios with, unfortunately no support from GM or the Dealerships.

Right now I'm compiling as much info as I can to go back to the dealer I bought the truck from a year ago and see if they have a solution. If the answer is no, and I'll have $30K lemon that I will never be able to drive with my family on board for vacations or other trips over 50 miles. I have another baseball tournament out of state next week that I'll have to take my son's 2013 Mazda 3 which I trust will be much safer than playing "Russian roulette" with my $30k disaster waiting to happen.

There is more than enough evidence on this website alone that proves there is a major issue with these vehicles. And the more the issue is ignored by the manufacturers and dealers the more they can count on blood on their hands and I'm sure some pretty hefty law suits to follow. I actually love this truck and all that GM and Chevrolet stands for. But unless there is a solution or even an acknowledgement by GM that this is, in fact, an issue they need to recognize and take action I will have to take a financial loss and go back to a Toyota Tundra. I owned a Tundra for 13 years and never had any issues like this.

Silverado 1500 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 31,000 miles

I purchased this truck new from dealer, after reaching just 31K miles, Recently The truck shuts off while driving during the first 20 minutes after being overnight. It starts fine, but can happen again within minute or two. This is very dangerous, as I am not sure if I how can start it again until I can bring to full stop. I am lucky that it never happened on highway with someone speeding behind me. It is very difficult to steer or hit the breaks because the power is off. What to do you think is the cause?
