Driving down single lane road I began to stop for red light, as I began to depress brake pedal but it was stiff and had significant effect slowing my truck. I drove of right side of road into wet grass too avoid collision of SUV stoped in front of me. There was no loss of control or damage done to exterior of truck or myself. As I'm almost completely stoped the side curtain air bags deploy for no apparent reason causing sever damage it the interior panels, headliner and both front seat belts that have that contain small charge permintly lock and now are un usable.I was only person in truck but the passenger front seat belt is retracted and locked guitar string tight.

I was parking my truck in a parking lot space, and when the truck was moving slow, I applied the brakes, and had to push very hard on the brake pedal to get the truck to stop. I had a local dealership run a diagnostic on the truck, and it came up as a faulty brake vacuum pump.

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving approximately 50 mph, the brake pedal became really stiff and did not function. Also, the brake assist failure indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence and later taken to classic Chevrolet of sugar land (13115 southwest freeway, sugar land, tx 77478). The dealer determined that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 18V578000 (service brakes, hydraulic) and the repairs had to covered by the owner. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 117,000.

Driving at slow speeds especially parking the brake pedal gets hard to depress and braking power is almost non-existent. This has been happening on and off since 30,000 miles and now daily at 60,000. The ABS indicator has gone on and off and the check engine light is on constantly now.

The vehicle braking system become rigid at low speed (approx 3mph or so) as if the power brake system fails. The vehicles stopping distance changes and the vehicle continues to roll while pressing the brake pedal toward the floor. This issue resulted in damage to my garage door while backing the vehicle into the driveway. The issue is best described in the pending investigation regarding the GM braking system located under Chevrolet Silverado recalls. I was made aware of the investigation after researching the issues I have had with my vehicles brakes. The investigation statement describes the issue as a problem with degrading brake vacuum component.

Multiple times at low speeds, usually parking or in stop and go traffic, I lose all braking power. It's terrifying when it happens. I have to put my full body weight (I'm a 200lb male) on the brake pedal and I mean I barely can bring it to a stop. Luckily I haven't hit anything in the time it took from the first occurrence of the problem until I could afford to get it fixed. The problem was figured out to be a bad vacuum pump. From what I can tell online, this seems to be a very widespread issue with not many owners reporting their problems. This is very dangerous, I couldn't imagine that happening at high speed, as reported by others. It's almost impossible to stop the vehicle when the brakes do that. Just trying to help prevent serious accidents.

I have a 2015 1500 Silverado and it is having brake issues. The peddle becomes hard to depress and the truck will not come to a stop. I have noticed this several times coming to a stop at low idle on the street. I dropped it off at the dealership only for them to tell me it would be $1100 and GM did not have a recall on it. They said the vacuum pump and several other things would need to be replaced in order to fix this.

Silverado 1500

  • 55,096 miles
Vacuum pump for brake system and hose/tube that connects to the pump had to be replaced after I lost brakes completely while driving the vehicle with my two year old daughter in the back seat!! the vehicle had to be towed to auto repair shop. Mileage was at 55,096. This happened while in a drive thru line at chic fila. Brakes got very hard and I just kept rolling into vehicle in front to me. I stopped rolling just short of hitting the vehicle. I slowly went through the line to park the vehicle in the parking lot and the brakes were completely rock hard the entire time. I had to simply roll to get where I needed to park slowly.

Dec 042018

Silverado 1500

  • 45,000 miles
Whenevr I back the truck up at slow speeds, the brakes temporarily fail for approximately 1-3 feet. Coming to a stop at slow speeds can also cause the truck to take extra distance to stop. I have changed to new brake pads, turned the rotors, and purchased new tires. The truck bounces severely when traveling at speeds over 50 mph on concrete roads. Only on concrete. Asphalt has normal ride as soon as the road transitions then the truck bounces.

Silverado 1500

  • 87,000 miles
Purchased used 2015 Silverado ltz with 87K miles on 12/1/2018 from dealer. On 12/2/2018 while backing out of parking space for first time, brake pedal would only move 1/4 inch with great effort (80-100lbs effort), and only applied enough braking force to stop truck moving 2 mph over 5 or 6 feet. Was able to immediately recreate problem moving forward while under 5-6mph, each time taking roughly 10-12 feet to stop with great braking effort. Problem occurred again 12/3 after a short trip (3 miles, 40mph) while slowly backing into parking space. Put truck in drive and the brake problem persisted. Backed up again, problem persisted. Maximum braking force would not stop truck from rolling down 7% grade from dead stop. Maximum braking force will absolutely not stop truck in stop-and-go traffic when this problem occurs again. **** must drive in far right or left lane to ensure space to swerve into when brakes fail to avoid collision. **** extreme safety hazard - will cause accidents, injuries & property damage. This needs to be a recall asap.

I was pulling into a parking spot and when pressing the brake pedal to stop it got really hard, had no brake pressure to stop, thankfully I had no concrete barriers or light posts in front of me to cause any damage just grass on a hill to help me stop. Second time this happened I was backing up to my garage that was on a slight hill and the brakes got hard but I was able to stop by putting the truck in park and using my emergency brake. Third time I was driving down the highway going approximately 65mph as I was slowing down to get off of an exit I noticed my brake started to get hard thank goodness I have a tow haul botton and I used that to help me slow down to get off the exit. Everytime my brakes have gotten hard is when I have to back down a hill, pull down a hill, park in a parking spot or have to press the brakes constantly to slow down.

Breaking system vacuum pump failure. Common and known problem. Brakes sporadically require substantially more effort to slow vehicle and increases breaking distance significant with no warning. Increases likelihood of crashes. Mine failed while driving 30 miles an hour on an exit ramp almost causing a collision. GM refuses to cover this under warranty and despite knowing that this is a common problem, has not issued a recall.

Brake pedal in the truck will occasionally go to the floor when the truck is in reverse. The problem seems to happen more when backing a boat trailer down a ramp at a boat launch where the truck is at an angle. Have lost brakes multiple times when doing that. Fluid is full in the reservoir and the mechanical portion (brake pads, rotors, calipers) checked out as fine.

problem #93

Nov 162018

Silverado 1500

  • 39,000 miles
Was pulling into a parking stall slowly and truck would not stop when applying the brake pedal. Brake pedal was very hard to press and used both feet to press on the pedal to eventually make the truck come to a stop. Caused a minor (cosmetic) scrape on passenger side front bumper (scraped concrete wall) due to the inability to stop when brake were being pressed.
