I purchased my Silverado earlier this year, 2015. It was a lightly used model, with only 3400 miles on the odometer. At the time of the sale, the CarFax disclosure simply stated that the Silverado was brought in for an electrical issue. No further details. I questioned the salesman about this, to which he said he was unaware of any issues and reassured me that the warranty is still valid.
After about a week, after driving for over an hour, I stopped to refuel, then turned off the ignition. On restart the My Link system did not start. Total power loss to the system. No radio, no backup camera, no phone connection, no outside temp, no navigation, no On Star, or touchscreen controls. Nothing. Several tries with restarting the truck failed to restart the My Link system.
After resuming my drive, the system came back on with no external input about 30 minutes later. This problem occurs intermittently, lately about 3 times a week during normal driving. I have scheduled a service for this problem and can only hope that the warranty will cover an intermittent problem. My first fear is that the dealership will say they can't determine there is a problem and will refuse to replace the system since they cannot diagnose the cause. My second fear is the system will not work when I need it, especially when backing.
I require the truck as my daily driver and cannot leave it with the dealership for the problem to re-emerge on their watch. It took two weeks to get a service scheduled at the dealer, which is too long to wait in my opinion...or do Chevrolets require so much service that the dealers can't keep up?
Update from Jul 15, 2015: UPDATE: My first visit to the local dealer was as expected. They said they could not reproduce the problem and rebooted the software in MyLink. The service manager told me to come pick it up the next day. As the porter brought it out to me, the MyLink system was not operative. I then went back to the service manager with the issue. He really went to work on the problem. Seems the truck was in for this problem 3 times before, all with negative results. Perhaps because none of those GM certified mechanics followed the correct procedures by contacting the engineers in Detroit and recording the details on the Silverado's mechanical history report. The service manager and the mechanic were able to reach an engineer who was knowledgable in the MyLink system. He suggested replacing the human interface of the radio, I believe this may be the touchscreen. A FEDEX package and a half day later the truck was ready. I picked it up and the problem has not replicated since that day three weeks ago. A thank you letter was sent to the dealership regarding the service manager and the mechanic who got this right!
