Purchased 2010 5.3L Silverado, brand new in Sept, 2011. After 4,000 miles it began to knock in the mornings, upon start up. Several times now, (20K miles as of 06/11), it knocks in the middle of the day when the motor is warm, however, upon start up only. It quiets down within3 - 6 seconds. Thus far the dealers have just looked at me like I'm speaking a foreign language. They seem to have never heard of this issue. I just watched my girlfriend lemon law a Range Rover and now. What an education! I sure hope the factory satisfies me on this issue or this truck is going back! It's a great truck otherwise and I'd keep it for 10 years if it's reliable.
