I dont understand it! I get in my truck only to be greeted by a crack on the dashboard over on the driver's side. I read that this is a common problem with the model vehicle and a recall is available to the airbag. However, the addressing the cracking of the dashboard is not. This is ridiculous. Do better GM, especially if you want american vehicles to remain relevant in the car industry. Can you please replace everyone's cracked dashboards! It would go a long way!
It's clearly a design flaw. When I had my windshield replaced the guy told me he saw that a lot in the 2010 Silverados as he had one himself. Chevy should fix it. My next truck will be a Toyota.
Just talked to dealer. Said it's not covered with my ex warranty. It's a problem and GM know s it. They need to step up and help us replace it. I have a Chevy man for 40 years. It's going to bad if they lose a customer for ever.

OK, first off I was an employee of GM, I was a repair person. I know the quality of the materials used went downhill right before we closed. That being said, there are consequences to using cheap plastics. I am thankful I knew to let GM know about this problem and am getting it fixed for 25% of the cost which I am hoping to get back after they issue a recall for this problem. No way should a huge crack be in the dash when this truck hasn't even been off road. I would have posted pics, but its at the dealers now getting fixed when I stumbled across this page. The dealership has been very helpful and for that alone I still think its worth buying GM.
SPENT +40k ON VEHICLE PLUS ANOTHER $2350 FOR BUMPER TO BUMPER ZERO DEDUCTIBLE WARRANTY EXTENSION, ONLY TO BE TOLD IT WAS CONSIDERED TRIM AND NOT COVERED. NEGOTIATED TO $200 REPLACEMENT. I WILL BE TRADING IN ON A DODGE OR FORD. SERVICE MANAGER ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THEY WERE AWARE IT WAS A DESIGN PROBLEM. IT SHOULD BE COVERED IN FULL. DODGE SAID IT WOULD BE A $1,000 DEDUCT ON TRADE IN, SO HAD REPAIRED. IS THERE A CLASS ACTION SUIT IN THE WORKS FOR THIS?
I bought the truck used in 2011 with 29k miles on it. I have always worried about the dash cracking but my concern was because my dash is black and the heat seemed like an issue. I had no idea that the dash cracking was an ongoing issue that GM has done nothing about. My crack is on the top left corner of the passenger airbag, and it simply appeared overnight. I haven't contacted anyone yet since my truck is out of warranty, but I am going to attempt to call my local dealer and see if they are willing to do anything.
Bought vehicle new in 2010 and recently noticed a crack near airbag compartment on passenger side as well as a crack in dash near steering wheel. Truck had never been abused and a quick search revealed this is a common issue. I contacted Chevrolet and explained my problem. They were unwilling to fix it for free due to being out of warranty. However I feel this is a factory defect and should be rectified. I have yet to take it to a dealer.
I've been a loyal Chevy customer for over 15 years. I can say with the way my complaint was handled and the deaths due to ignition failures in other Chevy's recently I will be looking at purchasing from other manufacturers shortly.
Obvious problem throughout the trucks. If it has not happened to yours, it will. There is no way for the plastic dash to expand and contract. Contacted the dealer, no help. In touch with the district service manager, not helpful thus far. I realize I am out of my warranty, but it is a design problem. If you have one, eventually, your truck will do the same thing.

Original statement from the dealer was I had to contact GM because I was out of my warranty. As of today, my dash was ordered and to be replaced from my dealer. All taken care of by the service manager at the dealer. Kudos to them. As for GM rep, well, let's just say I would hold my breath. I was told there is now a different vendor, different chemical makeup of the dash. Original does not stand up to the heat from the sun.
There is no way, with the amount of complaints I have read, that GM is not aware of this design/assembly flaw. They should make it right. After paying 30-40K for an auto you certainly don't want this happening. GM's reputation is at stake. They made BILLIONS in profit the last 6 quarters after the taxpayer bailout, now show us (taxpayer) what we paid for, good service or just to pad your pockets.
