CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2009 Silverado has no defect trends, which is a very good sign now that it's more than a few years old.
A couple model years back, the 2007 Silverado has an oil consumption defect at low mileage (~50k miles) — so far there's only a very few reports of the same problem with the 2009 Silverado.
The 2009 Silverado received poor side impact ratings on models not equipped with the optional side air bags.

Bad experience. I take my wife out for our 35th anniversary and got stranded where there is no signal on the phone for miles and to do some walking. I checked the afm system when I took the valve covers off found the #1 lifter was dead, no action. There was code P0300. I took lifters and cam out - the cam lobe was worn and the lifter was also bad. It was my dream - 40,000 dollars is not easy for a family to pay but I did it and now nothing but problems. These pickup have a problem with oil consumption lifter problems and who know what else there is.
