CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2009 Silverado has no defect trends, which is a very good sign now that it's more than a few years old.
A couple model years back, the 2007 Silverado has an oil consumption defect at low mileage (~50k miles) — so far there's only a very few reports of the same problem with the 2009 Silverado.
The 2009 Silverado received poor side impact ratings on models not equipped with the optional side air bags.
Had to get a new door handle because it was cheap and broke off because its plastic, not anything else. really could be made outta a lot better material. my coworker had 2 break off on his 06..
We purchased the 2009 Silverado from a friend. He never really used the passenger doors or the back doors. He did replace the door handle on the driver side and said it cost about $200+ to fix it. Thinking its not a big deal. Since I have had many vehicles in my 55 yrs of life, I have never experienced anything like this. The truck is falling apart. The door handle on the passenger side broke. Its made of the cheapest plastic I have ever seen. The whole thing came apart. I can see if it is being pulled on or abused in anyway but I assure you this is not the case. Now there is only 1 out of the 4 doors that the handle works. So this is really giving a bad name to the Chevrolet truck family. Suppose to be Tough.. This is definitely not the case. I think Chevrolet needs to replace all the handles on this truck with metal ones that will not break.
