I got this 2008 Chevrolet Silverado from my grandfather in Feb. , this truck has not been beaten or untreated , he has had trouble from day one with it.
First it was the key, would lock up and wouldn't turn. He took it to dealer. Well, it was still under the 3 yr warranty but they told him it would cost him 700.00 to fix the problem. Not knowing it was covered at that time by GM...they should have .. he took it home and continued to use it as is just not turning the key all the way back . When I received the truck, being in I live and work in the city, I have to turn it back in order to prevent theft ( maybe I shouldn't. lol) and then one day it locked up .. A tow truck was needed to get it to GM and once there it cost the price of a new key plus cost of coding, new cylinder and drilled holes into my steering wheel, total cost 1500.00, which I think its b*-** after being told it was a faulty part that had malfunctioned in the ignition itself. Forgot to mention that the wheel hub assembly bearing had been changed at 70,000 and the other side at 117,000, covered thank god.
Shortly after power doors stopped working ...told its around 1200.00; air bag lights have been on since day one, I'm thinking its part of the recall since the salt eats away at the sensor but they won't fix it; cruise control only works when it wants to and that's 600.00 to fix ( found sometimes lifting the brake up and pressing button like a mad person helps ); the tie rod ends, upper and lower control arms all had to be changed at 119,000, you don't even want to know the cost of that; sometimes I go to start it and nothing ...no lights on dash ,interior ...just nothing, after waiting 5 ...10 mins ...try again and vrooommm it starts ...checked posts everything is fine and minused everything else out ... someone said factor remote start ...which that only works when it wants too; front axle seals were leaking and replaced by GM under power train warranty.
Now some of the problems I have with it: clunking sound when moved from park into drive; a humming sound when driving from a stop, normally makes the sounds at around 40mph; tranny feels like it slips here and there when it warms up and mostly when coming up to a stop sign...try proving the sounds at the dealership... they will tell you everything is fine ...wait till after the power train warranty is up. lol. Then I'm sure they will know what it is or it will take them 4 hours of your hard earned money to find the problem first !!!; tire warning light is always flashing and never stops; motor shut off light came on once and GM said it could be the oil pressure sensor ( nothing like taking a 4 hour trip on a freeway costing you $180. one way thinking you might not make it back lol)
I know its a 2008 and not a 2012/13 but come on. I know of cars from 1980's more reliable then this truck. The chrome is starting to rust , paint rusting around top of door and bottom inside the rubber for door, all control buttons are fading and the fake chrome is coming off everything.
My grandfather was a Ford person and got suckered into the truck even after he said I don't know why I bought this s** of a b*** truck lol
