at 90000 I noticed excessive tire wear and kept hearing clunking in the front end .I thought it was a sway bar bracket and took it in to be checked .I was told both upper and lower ball joints on both sides needed replacing as well as two tie rod ends The worst part yet is to replace the upper ball joints you need to replace the whole upper control arm with bushings of coarse .Of course adding insult to injury my mechanic explains to save cost GM out sourced the ball joints to some third world country to save money for them, which will now cost us .And it doesn't help that the trucks don't have grease fittings in OEM parts. The new trucks may look good , but they aren't Chevy Tough like my 2001 Suburban.176000 miles and the ball joints are still good . Maybe when the wheels fall off the front of a few trucks and cause injuries GM will get back to making tough trucks again . Some bean counter will figure out it's better to make a tough truck , than to try and explain why sales are falling off .Do they remember when they were the best truck?
