Started out fan wouldn't work on the #5 setting and started smelling burning plastic, but could never locate it. Then #4 quit working, and finally none of the settings worked. After removing the plastic cover under the dash, noticed that the wiring to the fan module were melted together and shorting across to each other. Called an auto salvage yard to try and locate a new module and plug to replace the burnt plug and wires and replaced it but just keep having the same problem with the wiring melting together. They also suggested contacting a dealership and inquiring as to any recalls dealing with these parts. The dealership informed me that there are no recalls for any A/C- Heater components for my model truck. I hope it doesn't take my truck catching on fire for something to be done about this!!!!
The problem started back in December. When the heater fan was on 5, you could smell wiring burning. We never saw flames or smoke, but it quit if I turned the fan down. After that, 5 did not work on the fan. I only drive the truck on the weekends, so I didn't worry to much about it. Finally, this weekend the fan did not work at all and I thought that the fan had gone bad. I tore into it and found that the wires were missing about an inch of insulation and the resistor was melted. Advanced had the wiring pigtail and OReillys had the resistor. Altogether it costs about $80-$85. It did not take to long to fix. If there are parts available at the parts store than Chevy knows there is a problem and should have put a notice out saying that this could happen. I got lucky and didn't lose the whole truck. I was considering buying a new Chevy but I may have to reconsider.
I was driving down I-10 coming home, and a smell of burning wires filled the cab. I pulled over and found that the connector going to the blower fan was smoking. I have been trying to find the part to have this fixed, my self. Does any know if this is covered in the recall
I was driving in my truck when I smelt plastic burning and I looked down at my resistor for the motor blower and it was glowing orange and smoking like crazy. I pulled over quickly and yanked it out, it was melted so it was easy. Ive been in El Paso heat and havent fixed it yet cause I dont have the warrenty anymore. It sucks they need to recall this S!@T cause everyone I have met it does this around 50,000 miles. and I had my truck 5 months when I moved from where I bought it it breaks.

Like other people out there. Started with burning plastic smell and then later no #5 blower. 1-4 still works.
Haven't checked into the solution. Some one said replace resistor and pigtail. But hunting for the parts may be $$. Anyone can help.
