Had this problem fixed on 3/19/2005, and it was covered under warranty. My truck had 13,458 miles and they replaced the steering shaft. It started doing this problem again this week! the truck has 45,000 miles!!!!
ya so i put in a rebuilt power steering box (alot cheaper than a brand new one) and it completely eliminated that annoying noise and the rubbing feeling in the wheel when
you turn. it was quite easy to replace with the proper tools and a lift.
I have an 04 chevy silverado 1500 and it makes a really annoying rubbing noise when i turn either way. it has definitely gotten worse since i originally noticed it. My uncle has the same truck and it does the same thing. I am going to try putting in a new power steering pump and see if it fixes it.
my 2004 Silverado has a noise in the steering column that sounds like a growl like when you turn too far in one direction and the pump is growling but it happens through the whole range of motion. I have a friend with a 1999 and he had the same problem that cost him 1800 to fix and it is back
