After loading six ton of hay onto a Gooseneck trailer and while attempting to turn the vehicle around, the shaft inside the power steering pump broke. To look at the engine while running, you could not tell there was a problem with the pump. The result of the broken shaft was that the steering and the brakes both went out at the same time. I had to replace the power steering pump and the high pressure lines to the pump because the pump services both the power steering and power brakes. The vehicle was only being operated at about 3 - 5 MPH at the time of the incident. I could not turn the vehicle in any way and it was all I could do by applying all of my strength to engage the brake at this speed.

It was a good thing this happened at the farmer' field because if it would have happened while traveling the pass, I am sure I would not be here today to lodge this complaint. If the brakes and steering went out, I would have surely gone off the road and most likely have gone over one of the cliffs on the pass.
