I am filing a complaint about Chevrolet faulty ABS system. I have experienced several times where when hitting the brakes, they will lock up and I loose all break-power. This is an issue that highly concerns me due to the fact that there has been several incidences that have caused drivers to be the cause of an accident. I have done a lot of research on this issue and apperently I am not the only Chevy owner with that problem. GM needs to recall their ABS system before someone seriously gets injured

Anti-lock braking system is activating more and more often on dry pavement. Only activates when vehicle is almost stopped. This does seem to add to stopping distance.

Consumer states: The ABS wheel sensor releases the brakes when coming to a stop. No for warning noise but does make a noise when it comes on. When holding the pedal down the brakes release.

I have recently experienced the anti-lock brake problems that all of the GM trucks/SUVS have been experiencing. When I would attempt to stop the anti-lock brake would activate on dry pavement and in good weather, causing me to roll forward past the point of where I intended to stop. This happened dozens of times before I was able to have it services by the dealer, at times making me roll into traffic at stop signs and almost rear end vehicles stopping in front of me. The dealer fixed the problem on the second attempt, the first time they attempted cleaning a sensor contact, before finally replacing the entire sensor unit. I had to pay out of pocket as it is a 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 with 80,000 miles.

2001 Silverado pickup I have had two near miss incidents. Both involve my anti-lock breaks activating at low speed as I approach stop signs or red lights. All the sudden my breaks start pulsing and the truck will not stop. One time I had to veer onto the curb to avoid hitting the car in front of me. The last time my truck actually rolled in front of an oncoming semi truck. Luckly the truck was able to swerve and miss me. I approached the dealership today in person (May 4, 2004) and they flat out denied that they had a problem. The refuesed to acknowledge a safety concern and told me "if you want us to look at it we can, but we will have to charge you".

At slow speed, just before stopping, brake pedal goes half way to floor and I get a ratching sound and feeling in the pedal. This has been going on for a month or so and it seems to be getting harder to stop. I think it has something to do with the ABS system. I had no problem stopping on vehicles before the ABS was introduced. I think it is a safety hazard, rather than eliminates one.

No specific events leading up to failure. 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ext cab pickup. ABS kicks on everytime you try to stop. It occurs at low speeds on dry pavement (ex. Kicks in when pulling into parking space and it effects stopping time & distance and feels like I'm not going to stop in time before hitting the vehicle in front of me). The feeling of not being able to stop in time is a very uncomfortable feeling!! I have not had this repaired yet, but I really believe that the manufacturer should be responsible for this fix. I need to get this fixed soon, before somebody does get hurt or damage does occur.

When applying anti lock brakes, they failed. Also, power steering wouldn't work when coming to a stop and trying to turn. Took truck back numerous of times to the dealership, and they checked the truck, and said they couldn't find anything wrong with the truck. Called manufacturer about the problem, and manufacturer called the service manager. Service manager told him to take his truck to another dealership. He traded a 2000, Chevrolet Silverado for a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado and still having the same problem. Talked to several other people who had the same truck, and they were having similar problems. Had an accident on the 2001 truck when the brakes wouldn't catch and hit an embankment, causing $1100 worth of damage. No one was hurt. 2000 Chevrolet Silverado P/U, 4 w/D VIN#: [xxx]; 22,826 miles; 2001 Chevrolet Silverado P//U 4 w/D VIN#:[xxx]; 50,000 miles.
