Service F.w.D. light comes on, dealer says nothing is wrong but the F.w.D. dose not work sometimes. I am afraid that it will go into F.w.D. low when I am driving at a moderate speed causing transmission problems and possible injury.

I noticed that the transfer case was leaking fliud. The truck was going in for a recall in the steerinng pump. So I asked the dealer to check where the leak was coming from. The dealer called me and told me that the transfer case had a small hole in it and it would be $1,200 to fix it. I brought the truck home and looked at the transfer case myself. The transfer case did have a small hole in it. I was going to put some jb weld on the hole for the time being. Until I could afford to have the transfer case fixed. When I touched the hole with my finger I noticed that the transfer case had really weak medal in that area like when it was made it was not made right. I have been talking to GM about the problem they are tring to decide if the transfer case failure is there fault or if the truck has been beat on. I have only used the 4WD one time in the last 9 months that I have owned the truck the people that had it before me took really good care of the truck. I am really upset that Chevrolet's do not last more then 5 years.

Service 4WD indicator message light on, but when scanned no codes are present. 4WD functions in all ranges and once ignition is turned off and restarted message is cleared. It will come on again in approximately 5 minutes, and sometimes a it will pass before it goes on again.

Ltr fm audrey wissinger (pa) concerned about the problems she experienced with her 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. Both front/rear rotors had to be replaced. The old brake linings were replaced with new ones. The rotors were literally falling apart-inferior metal. Dealer stated this was the result of the vehicle not being driven enough. There was a terrible "kluncking" sound in the rear end or drive shaft. This happened in a downshift or upshift. The dealer stated it was normal play in the drivetrain. All four wheels had to be replaced at 6000 miles because they were rusted. Tailgate strap broke at 17000 miles. When the 4-wheel drive was engaged, it made a terrible growling that didn't seem normal.

The drive train shudders excessively when switched into auto four wheel drive. I noticed this prior to the end of the warranty period but just forgot about taking it in for warranty service as I just stopped using the auto four wheel feature. It started at or about 30,000 miles, the truck has 66,000 now and I am sure the dealer won't listen to me, just my wallet. I'll put this to the test next week on my vacation.

Front wheels will not pull in 4WD caused by premature wear and slipping of clutch discs in front transfer case. Wearing on the clutch discs even continues while in 2wd. Soulution is an expensive overhaul of the front transfer case.
