This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
When the brakes were applied, the vehicle experienced extended stopping distance. The consumer had the ABS sensors cleaned but it was too early to see if the problem was corrected.
The anti-lock braking system on the Chevrolet Silverado is too sensitive. I have had several incidents where the system activated when it should not have causing the vehicle to experience increased stopping distances.I consider this to be a major safety problem.I filed a complaint with your office several years ago, but have yet to see any action taken to correct this problem
My brakes failed after accelerating from being stopped at a red light. The light turned yellow before we were into the intersection when the vehicle in front of me stopped, speed was less than 10 mph. I attempted to stop on a bumpy dry surface while braking the pedal went to the floor and hit the vehicle in front of me. Dealership claims brakes were within specifications set by manufacture. Something needs to be done about this problem, there are too many complaints dealing with the ABS system on the Silverado. Please do something to correct this problem.
ABS failed prematurely. Dealer notified. Whenever the consumer came to a stop, when approaching another vehicle at a stop light, the ABS malfunctioned and caused the vehicle to drift into another vehicle in front.
The vehicle experienced extended stopping distance. When the vehicle had come to a stop, the anti lock brake motor started, the pedal vibrated and pushed back adding the extended stopping distance. This was an ongoing problem but not constant. Recall# 00V055000
The anti-lock brakes activated at very low speeds. The pedal moved upward and driver pushed the brake pedal with force but the brakes did not respond. The left front brakes failed 100% of the time and the right front assembly failed intermittently. Both front wheel bearing assembly/sensors were replaced. The brake pedal had become hard as a rock and would not stop until both feet were pushed with maximum force.
The vehicle experienced the same problem as recall (anti lock brake), #00V055000, however the vehicle identification number was not included in the recall.
Brakes showing same failure as recall 0 0 V 05 5000. Call Chevrolet with questions of recall but was told that my truck was not effected by. My truck has shown the same problems that were summarized with recall listed above. Repair includes replacing brake pressure module valve.
Antilock system activated without cause and disabled the braking system. This happened on dry pavement at speeds below 30 mph when coming to a normal stop. This happened today and almost everytime I dare to drive the truck.
When anti lock brakes kicks in, it will shut of brake system for a few seconds, unable to stop vehicle. Contacted dealer, dealer said this was normal. Jlg
When applying brakes while going down a decline if there is any bump in the road the ABS brakes kicks in, and vehicle rolls forward unable to stop. Contacted dealer.*akthis problem is intermittent and there is no warning when the anti lock sytem will start to fail.
I have had problems with this vehicle since I bought it. My brakes habitually fail if I hit a bump while braking, and I have been told by both the dealer and the manufacturer that my brakes are operating within the normal specs for this vehicle and the driving conditions in my area. They do nothing to fix the problem. I use my personal vehicle to respond to fires and medical emergencies, and am concerned that I will have an accident en route to help someone. Also, my automatic transmission occasionally goes into neutral while stopped in traffic, or will not engage upon putting it in 'drive', but the dealership is unable to duplicte the problem, so they say they can't fix it. My fuel pump has failed and been replaced more than once. My windshield wipers repeatedly fail on the passenger side.
Since my purchase of this truck I have had over 10 incidents involving the braking system. I have returned to jim ellis servicing 5 times for this problem. I will be corrected for a short period of time and than return to the same problem. I am going through the BBB now to get GM to repurchase this truck because it is unsafe.
On four separate occasions while applying brakes pedal would go to the floor, and vehicle would continue on before stopping. Vehicle been to dealer on two occasions, and they were unable to duplicate the problem. Feel free to provide any further information.
