In July of 2000 I purchased a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado, used, from a Ford dealership. There was only a 30 day warranty. In the beginning of December the brakes went on the vehicle. The brakes and rotors were replaced. On December 24, 2000, without any notice whatsoever, while shifting the truck into reverse I noticed it would not move. I put it into drive and it moved. After having the truck looked at, it was determined that there was a problem with the transmission. When I called the dealership where the truck was purchased, I was told that it would cost approximately $2,000 to re-build the transmission. After only having the truck for six months, driving it 30 miles round trip to work, never using the vehicle as a plow truck and never misusing the vehicle I would like to know how a vehicle of this year could lose such a major unit and have no recourse on the part of the dealership or manufacturer, that it become the responsibility of the owner to correct such an expensive error.

I have tried unsuccessfully to contact Chevrolet to get attention brought to the issue. I keep being told they are investigating the problem, but still no word from them. Everytime they say they will get back to me, no one ever does. The brakes lock up when it is wet outside sometimes they don't work at all, and sometimes they work great. I would just like for my brakes to be fixed. We have consulted 2 authorized Chevrolet dealers and they can not duplicate the problem. I am back into a corner and do not know what else to do. I risk my life, my wife's life, our 6 month old daughter's life, and everyone out on the road when I drive the truck. This is the only mode of transportation I have to get back and forth to work. I would appreciate you looking into this problem. Thank you, daniel L. mckinney

Brakes are getting progressively worse whenever they are applied. This would cause vehicle to shimmy. It would also increase the stopping distance. Have not taken vehicle to dealership.

While traveling down the interstate at 60 mph, noticed brakes were not responding properly. Slowed down, no dash board warning lights appeared, and had to ujse emergency brake to get home. Fortunately, it was close to home. This could have been very serious. Vehicle had to be towed to the nearest dealership, bill heard in anitoch, tn. Dealer service manager was consulted concerning GM sharing the expense to no avail. Called GM, customer service myself, and was denied any adjustment. Felt I needed to consult you concerning this safety item on such a new vehicle. There were no brakes front or rear. This vehicle was purchased new and was kept in excellent condition with regular servicing.

It started witin 1-2 months of purchase, I started having brake problems, since that time I have had my truck to the car dealer for repairs or all 4 brakes and other parts 100% replaced, on the last visit the dealer told me that I would have to pay 1/2 of the $600. Bill and the next time they would pay nothing. I just had my tires replace for the first time on 2/14/00 and les schwab told me my brakes were to a 10-15% balance left. With this inf. It will make it 5 times my brakes will have to be replaced and the dealer will do nothing. While sitting at a stop light and then try to go sometimes the brakes are locked up and it won't move, and other times when I need to stop even on dry pavement the anti lock will kick in and start jerking the truck around. I was told by the people at the attorney generals office I should contact you about this matter. I have sent an em to the chev dealer and directly to chev but have been ignored. I'm getting worried about the safety of my family and myself while being in this truck. Please help me where you can with this matter. Thank you dale harder.

Whenever driving the vehicle there is a loud noise coming from the brakes and the pedal vibrates. Also, when applying the brakes the pedal goes straight to the floorboard. Sometimes the parking brake doesn't work.consumer had the vehicle in the shop five times for repairs, and the dealer still doesn't know what the problem is. Since then dealer changed the brakes/ rear drums/front pads the rear shoes and back drums twice, and they still can't determine the problem.

problem #5

When applying brakes there is no action until a long brake pedal stroke finally engages the brakes. This results in extra delay time before brakes are actually applied. The dealer looked at the brakes and adjusted the rear brakes. This did not improve the brake pedal squashy no action, delay to application of brakes. The dealer's shop repair supervisor/ manager drove the vehicle and demonstrated that the vehicle stopped fine. However, he had performed this test with his foot already on and depressing the brake pedal before actually attempting to stop. This approach of course removed the delay to apply the brakes, but hardly a normal way to drive. I have seen this reported in a number of automotive magazines as a problem as well as experiencing it with other Chevrolet pickups 1995 thru 1999 models. It seems that a reprogramming of the ABS module or something should be done, this is very dangerous. As a final point, my 1998 chrevolet Malibu ABS brake action is instantaneous, as soon as you touch the brake pedal! it's not because it's a smaller vehicle and not a truck as the dealer tried to imply(baloney!)
