You could cut a hole in the bed to repair this, which I would greatly recommend if your S10/Sonoma is lowered/has the ZQ8 suspension packages, this makes it hard and/or nearly impossible to put the gas tank hanger back in place, should it need to be cut.
All in all, not fun, lots of gas and money and I'm pretty sure I got high off fumes more than a couple of times, 3/10 would do again if needed but not voluntarily without an offer of money in return.
The mechanic came to the job site where my van was.It would turn over but wouldn't start. He beat on the gas tank with a rubber hammer (the fuel pump is in the tank), it started..Drove it to the shop took off the gas tank, and put a new pump in the son of a bitch...$875.00 bones !!
