2002 Chevrolet S-10 ls X-cab pickup manual transmission: Loud knocking noise comming from transmission and shifting through gears is rough. When clutch pedal is pressed noise disappears but, when pedal is released a loud bang is heard from transmission and knocking noise returns. The rough shifting occurs mostly going into 3rd gear but also occasionally in all other gears. Brought to dealer to repair for the first time on Jun 2, 2003. Technician said noise is " normal " for this type of vech. Due to a heavier duty transmission. Clutch slave unit was found leaking, causing the rough shifting...dealer replaced slave unit. On Aug. 4, 2003 truck was once again brought in to dealer to inquire about knocking noise from trans and shifting problems (this time transmission wouldn't allow shifter to go into 1st gear and shifting was rough again) after getting second and third opinions from various shops, and all stating that knocking noise does not sound "normal" and a problem with shifting. Once again service tech at the dealer stated that knocking noise is normal and found no problems with shifting but may have fixed a problem, because after leaving service dept, shifting went back to normal but knocking is still there.
