I never received Safety Recall# 06020 Galvanized Defective Tailgate Cables that snap/break due to corrosion inside the cable causing the tailgate to fall down while opened. Both my cables have been torn/broken caused by the rust thru for quit some time. My son told me recently, that he had received the Recall Notice a number of years ago and the Chevy Dealer replaced his cables; his S-10 cables are good/solid no problems. I am meticulous with records and surely would have told the Dealer and had them replaced during the recall period. What should I do as I never received the Recall Notice at issue?

: the contact stated while on a major highway, the hoist that holds up the spare tire failed causing the spare tire to fall off the hoist. The spare tire was release onto the highway. The contact stopped to retrieve the tire. Upon observation, the hoist was observed to be rusted out which caused the failure. The vehicle has not been taken to the dealer for repairs. Updated 9/5/2006 - no repairs have been made yet. The consumer would like for the manufacturer to pay for the repairs.

I'd like to complain about the spare tire on my 2001 Chevrolet S-10 extreme breaking the wire cable and falling off. After hitting a railroad track, it came off unexpectedly. Fortunately for us, it did not cause any damage to the truck or hit any cars in the area, after it broke free and traveled over 50 yards across a busy highway. Since the spare is approximately 50 lbs and 30 inches in diameter, it could have caused some very serious problems. This is definitely a design problem and should be investigated. It's possible the cable holding the spare should be replaced with something heavier.
