This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
While traveling on highway if rolled over a bump or pothole pedal went all the way to the floor and there was no power. Dealership was aware of problem.
When applying brakes to stop and hit sharp bump in the road brake pedal goes to the floor and braking is sharply decreased to the point where I end up rolling into the intersection. This has happened at least ten times now and only through luck and my driving skill have I not been involved in an accident. Brought back to dealer three times, only last time was service manager able to duplicate problem but each time dealer has informed me this is normal ABS operation. This is a very serious problem to which I have slowed my driving down considerably and will not let anyone else drive the vehicle. Still it scares me to death everytime it happens.

Several times brakes were applied in normal condition at stop or red lights, brake pressure would release and pedal would go to the floor. Noise from anti-skid could be heard but there was no stopping power at all.
Both rear hydraulic brake lines ruptured at the flare fitting entering each caliper within 2 weeks of each other. The dealer was unable to replace the first one, right rear, because Chevrolet informed them that "the part did not exist!" the dealer was forced to reflare the old line. Within 1 week, it broke again in the same spot. I replaced the line with an aftermarket one myself. Less than a week later, the other rear brake line (left rear) ruptured at the flare in the same spot as the right rear, entering the caliper. I replaced it myself and took the oem broken line to viva motors to inform them to inform Chevrolet that there was a potential serious defect in Chevrolet S-10 rear brake lines. The service manager advised me to call Chevrolet myself since they (Chevrolet) wouldn't listen to him. Since Chevrolet's southwest area zone representative had previously told me to "go pound sand" I figured why bother with him. I feel the odds of two oem brake lines failing within 2 weeks of each other are astronomical and since Chevrolet chose to ignore the incidents, I'd better contact you to investigate further. Hopefully, mine was an isolated case but I doubt it because as I said, the odds are astronomical and the sw area zone rep chose to say the part didn't exist rather than admit he had a serious life threatening problem. In reality, how can he say the truck never had brake lines? I smell a rat and would like your organization to check into it. If further investigation saves 1 life, this is well worth our efforts. Fortunately, I was able to stop safely both times my hydraulic system suffered massive failures but I will say, I think the failures took a few years off my life and absolutely caused some soiled pants. I'm not a chronic complainer by any stretch of the imagination but I'm not stupid either and Chevrolet has problem with at least one of its trucks and is choosing to hide its head in the sand it wants me to go pound. Thanks for your efforts, john mullen.
My son went over a bridge and the brakes made a loud noise, engaged and caused him to fishtail and run his front end into the bridge. He had a witness behind him that saw the whole thing and said it was very scary and a good thing there was no oncoming traffic. It did $2300 worth of damage and his airbags did not employ.
Was driving 45mph had applied brakes to stop and brake pedal went to floor. Vehicle eventually stopped. Had contacted dealer, and vehicle towed in. Mechanic checked ABS brakes and found nothing wrong.
During braking on wet, bumpy or gravel surfaces the brake pedal becomes "soft" and goes to the floor. The vechicle becomes hard to stop. The ABS warning light comes on and will not go out until the vehicle is restarted. This is a very dangerous situation.

Brakes locked up intermittently on twenty separate occasions when going over a bump in the road, causing vehicle to go into a slide, and resulting in extended stopping distance. Dealer has replaced ABS module. However, problem still exists. After reinspection of vehicle dealer determined that vehicle performed as designed. Please provide additional information.
Upon applying brakes on ruff or wet roads, the brake pedal jumps and then goes all the way to the floor. Brakes fail. Dealer suggests that I drive only on smooth roads that are dry. They admitted that this is a common problem and that the manufacturer hasn't come up with a solution. Told that it meets standards. I feel this truck is dangerous and I do not want to drive it and risk my life or anyone I might hit. My brother has already been thrown into the dash, while wearing his seat belt. Dealer said belt does not hold when brakes fail.
Was driving on dirt washboard road. Had put on brakes and pedal went to floor. Then, brakes locked up. Problem seemed to happen only on dirt roads. Contacted manufacturer and dealership. Informed that it was how ABS brakes on were made.
While traveling at 40 to 50 mph went to apply brake system, and there was no resistance behind the brake pedal, and pedal went directly to floor. Consumer rear ended another vehicle due to this defect. Please provide any additional information/attachments.
