Soon after purchase (sometime in 2001), check engine light came on. Diagnosed as water in air pump and check valve corroded open. Brought to dealer several times to have repaired with only the last service successful. Forward to present. Again, check engine light illuminated. Computer scanned, same diagnosis. Even after previous failures with air pump and check valve, no longer warranted.

The handles on both sides of the seat broke very shortly after we purchased the vehicle. Also the third door handle has been replaced by us already and is broken again, also the third door bracket at the top my husband had to weld because we could not find one this bracket broke and the door flew open while he was driving. The spring in the hinge door broke off and now the drivers side door is not opening properly. We have had problems with this ever since we bought it.

Had 3rd door handle replaced twice and it's since broken again. Will not pay to have it replaced again. All knobs for both driver and passenger seats have broken B/C they are made of cheap plastic. Dealer joked saying everyone who has bought this vehicle has had 3rd door handle replaced. Had driver door hinges replaced and they need replaced again, but will not put anymore money into it. Break system is awful. Finally had to remove fuse for the ABS system B/C the brakes would depress all the way to the floorboards and not grab. Have had fuel pump replaced twice. Very costly repairs and as a result will never buy another GM product again.

2000 S-10 extreme suddenly cuts off and will not start again even though tank is full. 2 mechanics say it is fuel sending unit inside gas tank. Great expense to replace. Researching on web find many, many other S-10 owners with exactly the same problem.
