The contact inspected the vehicle and found that the spare tire cable had fractured prematurely. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 60,620.
The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet S10. The contact stated that the wire cable that is used to lift and secure the spare tire has rusted and split into two pieces. The manufacturer stated that they have a $75 harness that he could purchase. The engine size and purchase date were unknown. The current and failure mileages were 60,000.
: the contact stated while exiting the expressway at 25 mph the spare tire, which is held underneath vehicle by a supporting cable, dislodged and the spare tire rolled into the road causing vehicle to run over the tire. The manufacturer was contacted and determined that the vehicle was not under warranty therefore they would not provide service without cost. The vehicle was also taken to local dealers who confirmed the manufacturers statement. No repairs were made to the vehicle. Updated 7/13/2006 -
