Outer front disc pad wore completely out without the wear indicator on the front pads engaging. Resulting in dangerous braking and a very expensive repair. Dealer said that the calipers must have stuck resulting in the damage. If that is the case then every S10 pickup needs to be recalled. This happened on both the left and right sides at the same time. Since the wear indicators on the inner pads did not engage, it lead to an unexpected and dangerous situation with no warning.
Vehicle only have outside brake pads and the inside brake pads wore completely down without prior warning, damaging the rotors, manuf. Redesigning pads warning indicators.
When brakes were applied the truck did not stop. The owner had the brake pads replaced. The ABS brake indicator light was on, when brakes were pumped, the light went off. The dealer will be contacted.
ABS brake problems; first the ABS warning light came. Taken to dealer and reset. Then about (2) weeks later driver hit a patch of black ice, and had no control. Vehicle spun, entered ditch and struck a vehicle already in a ditch who had same type of spinout. Truck bounced of other vehicle, spun again, and landed front end in ditch. On October 31st, 1997, owner was informed that truck had no front brakes. On November 3rd, the brakes were turned, and the pads were replaced. The problem no longer exists.
Brakes: Premature wear of the outside disc brake pads. Wear indicator installed on inside pads; but outside wore out before installing wear indicators. Dealer and manufacturer indicated that this was normal.
Consumer needs to replace the brake shoes and pads on the front of the vehicle. The right brake pad is worn more then the left side. Consumer contacted the dealer, the dealer stated it was normal operation.
When applying brakes, experienced hard or soft pedal, pedal sometimes goes to floor, squeaking noise, pulls to right or left, extended stopping distance; dealer reproduced problem, replaced ABS box, master cylinder, speed sensor and brake pads.
Experiences excessive wear of pads, replaced 3 times, as result of pads rubbing against rotors, turned and replaced rotors. Front brakes do 99% of braking, pads needed to be replaced every 13,000 miles, rear drums have never been replaced, problem persists.
The inside brake pads wore completely down with no prior warning. There was no indication of wear until the rotors became damaged. The design of the brake pad warning system has been changed to include the inside as well as the outside pads.
