To stall while driving is dangerous and a hazard to other motorists. Fortunate local GM dealer discovered problem while providing other service. This is a good car with 181.000 Km now. Dealer suggested using fuel additive TKO every three to four tanks of fuel. I now use premium fuel. Engine still attempts to stall but has not completely stalled. When Optra was purchased it had 142,000 km and the stalling severe at that time.
this is crazy....i was driving and all of a sudden the car just stopped,shut down.doing all the obvious things to do when your car dies on side of the road,nothing was visible.i waited 10 mins and started her up and drove home.i took the car in and the garage hooking it up to the computer and nothing was recorded as wrong.yet again another issue that has no solution.
I had this same problem almost 2 years ago. I took my car to my mechanic to a GM dealer and they told me that the problem was the Catalytic Converter which they replaced at no cost due that 2004 Chevy Optra's had been reporting manufacturing issues for the catalytic converter.
I am now having the same problem again. I contacted another GM dealer and I was advised that it is not covered under warranty because it's past the 5 years. I remember that the first time my car's Catalytic Converter was replaced, the GM dealer where I went told me that GM was replacing all catalytic for that specific car model and was covered under a 10 year warranty. Since that dealer closed, I have no way of finding out how to go about this and this new dealer I contacted seem not very helpful at all. Any advice?? I am very disappointed at this issue since a Catalytic Converter is supposed to last about 1000,000 kilometers and since it was replaced I have only drove my car for about 30K.
Just like Optrafied and MCD, my Optra decided on its own when it wanted to take a break, only luckily, mine didn't leave the highway (you guys are amazingly lucky). At this point, we have no idea how to fix this--we have tried alternators (my Dad is a mechanic, so he can install them), but they don't seem to work. At this point, I just want to get rid of the car, and go with a completely different model--anyone heard anything bad about a Ford Fiesta????? Thanks for the opportunity to rant. While slowing to enter turns and or traffic tie ups,...as well as stopping for traffic signals ...The engine would begin to chug and eventually stall . This was bad enough.But when on the highway the RPM's would race then the chugging began again. Once again it would stall . Making the car unsafe to drive .

The car's engine stalled while driving, while sitting at a light, whenever it decided to without any pattern. It stalls, then 3 minutes later it will start again.
First code to show up was the crankshaft sensor. A towing cost and $1200 to the dealership and the cars stalls a week later. Another tow and no codes the dealer does not believe me because the car starts. The third time the car stalls with the dealer driving to it to get it checked into the shop...he finally believes me, but doesn't know what wrong. After many fixes and many stalls I complained to GMC.
Finally 5 months later they decide to put in a new computer and now my total cost was $2,400. This car is practically new with only 53,000km and was under warranty. All the repairs were said not covered under warranty even though I had a 5 year powertrain warranty. After complaining to GMC they re-reimbursed me $348, that was mighty nice of them since the car is crap.
Thinking it was fixed, I gave the car to my sister because she need a vehicle and a year after I am getting the same problem.
My father was a diehard Chevy owner and I used to be one. We bought a Mercedes so we wouldn't have any more problems and I will never buy another Chev again. It has been 1-1/2 years of complete torture and expense with GM. I could never drive that car again, I had a fear of being in front of an eighteen wheeler while it stalls on the highway doing 100km/hr. It's too dangerous.
