My mother bought this 2006 Monte Carlo in 2007 w/ 0.0 miles. She paid cash for it at Tropical Chevrolet in Miami, FL. Before she died in 2010, Florida DMV cancelled her drivers license & she was not able to drive the vehicle. I have two other vehicles and only drove the Monte sparingly. Although this vehicle is 8 years old, it only has 51,250 original miles. On Sunday, 6/15/14, while driving 30 mph on a residential street, the engine "died". I tried restarting but heard a disturbing "metal/clanking" noise. I allowed car to coast to a stop. I called tow truck that towed car.
The next day I called another tow truck to tow vehicle to Tropical Chevrolet. Service Adviser (Lisa Glynn) had diagnostics performed & advised me that the car needed a new engine. I queried her regarding any recalls or other vehicles with low mileage that that had "blown" engines. She stated, "...not to her knowledge." I explained to her that this was "unacceptable" for an engine with only 51,000 to be completely "blown." She gave me an estimate of between $4,200 and $6,500 for a replacement engine-used/new respectively.
