This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Our 2000 Monte Carlo supersport was parked and had been off for approximately 15 minutes. Before that, it had been driven for approximately 30 minutes and parked for about an hour. Someone came in to tell me it was smoking. There was a great deal of smoke coming from under the hood. We called the fire department and before they could arrive, the car was engulfed. While it was burning, we could hear it trying to start! there is nothing left of the front, engine compartment, or interior, except for the frames. Only the trunk area and right rear tire were untouched.
Driver seat failure- it just plain broke. I weigh 240 lbs, and the driver's seat just broke under my weight getting in. It is now in pieces. The seat frame came apart at a weld near the front left corner. This potentially is an unsafe condition in that I don't know if the seat belts will continue to restrain me properly. I am having it fixed, but I drove around for 20,000 miles in this condition.
Leather seats: The quailty of the leather was "poor" to say the least. Dealer did replace the rear seat after repeated complaints. Speed control: At about 40,000 miles, speed control makes audible sound upon engaging or disengaging. Dealer replaced speed control module and this did not stop the problem. Interior: The coating on the dash board is peeling. Steering: Makes aut\dible snapping ni\oise when turning. Dealer cannot find problem. Transmission: Engine cuts out when under load at 1800 -2500 RPM on hills. Tachometer jumps up and down. Dealer had the car for 4 days and couldn't recreate the problem. I took them for a test drive and recreated it over and over again.
Front passenger seat was moving forward, dealer determined that track was broken. Track was replaced, but seat is still moving. The passenger seat does not lock but moves on tracks. The dealer tried to fix it four times but the problem still not solved. Consumer states that when you stop the vehicle you can hear it move.
