This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The contact owns a 1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. While driving 25 mph, the transmission gears slipped out of place. A local mechanic attempted to replace the transmission and did not have all of the necessary components to do so. The manufacturer could not identify or locate the correct transmission for his model. No repairs were made. The failure mileage was 80,000. The current mileage was 100,000.
Transmission slips. When trying to enter the freeway, there is no pull, I've nearly been hit twice because of this. Told the dealership and they said they couldn't duplicate problem so they wouldn't fix it. Everyone I know who owns this same year and model has experienced the same problem. One person complained enough that the dealership said yes there was a recall on a part in the trans.mission, and they replaced it. I can't get G.M. to verify this. Also, the trunk lid has no hydraulics to keep the lid up and if the wind is blowing just right, it slams shut. It has hit me in the head twice and once on the bridge of my nose and also, it has come down on my brothers nose. I sure hope you can help.
2nd transmission had total failure at 31000 miles and was replaced again. 3rd transmission started slipping in first and second gear at 67000. Will cost $$$$$$$$$$ to fix.
Engine check light always coming on, burned up O2 sensor, vaccum line broke controlling vents, charcoal canister cracked, transmission slips if pedal is floored from takeoff between rst and 2nd and when downshifting after braking, ABS fail in wet conditons resulting is extended stopping distance, alternator defective at 63,000 miles, vehicle skids and low trac light comes on when braking frequently.
Complained about transmission at least 10 times, finally failed completelt and was repaired. Engine light on at least 15 times, replaced injectors, plugs, wires, O-rings, engine gasket, car still not fixed.
Was traveling 70mph when vehicle locked up suddenly. Was making noises before it happened. Spun around 3 different times before edging to side of road. Took to dealer. Was test driven. Was informed planetary gear failure caused transmission to lock up. Found pieces of metal in pan. Consumer is very uncomfortable to drive this car, the noise is still present..et.
