Taking my son into town the cars check engine came on and they said the engine was not at full power. I bought this car over a year ago because I thought it would be reliable for my family and myself. I then googled to see what the problem could be and seen there is class action lawsuits for the same problem. GM knew about but is not wanting to recall the problem.
Check engine light. Error message stating engine under power. I was told this happened because of the extreme cold snap we had. (It was minus 20+ with wind chills for about 2 weeks). When it first happened it wasn't THAT cold. This car was a certified car, which comes with 100,000 miles on the powertrain. They stated it didn't have ANYTHING to do with the engine but they changed the oil! (It wasn't due for another 2000 miles.) My wife has a 2016 Malibu but had the extended warranty and it was covered! What BS!
"Cause": Charge air cooler plugged. FIX: Replace charge air cooler & sensor. Full oil change. COST: 1291.34 including tax. They charged me 691.56 for the charge air cooler. The SAME part from part geek is 91.98!! If the charge for labor isn't bad enough, they rape you for the damn part!!
Okay, when I drive, the "Engine reduce power" kicks in out of nowhere and stops my car from going past 30 mph on the highway. I have had this problem fixed from the last recall, but it still came up again. Please - can ya fix this problem?
I been having this car for almost a year now, and the first week I had the car the engine power reduce came on. I instantly called the car lot to let them know and I scheduled the appointment which took 2 weeks for them to look at it. Once they fixed it after not driving my car for 2 weeks, it was a temporary fix! The next month my engine light came on again with the same problem - engine power reduce!
I was so mad I called the shop and they made me schedule another appointment which was a disaster - they couldn't get me in until 2 to 3 weeks later again. I have been so unhappy with this car and I will not continue to pay for all theses problems - I have 2 small kids and I'm so tired of this car. Well, I got that fixed and now last month it's been the with the same damn problem - THE ENGINE POWER REDUCE again. WTF. Now I haven't had time to get my car at this point and I didn't have the money, so I don't know what to do.
Looking online and talking with other Malibu owner's I'm seeing this is a common problem (engine reduced power / service engine soon). And I'm thinking to myself, why do we the consumer have to suffer the cost or even our life due to a dealer malfunction? If multiple cars around the world have having the same issue, it's obvious it's something wrong within the make of the car. I'd like to be refunded for the hard earned cash I had to fork over due to the maker's fault.

Keep getting check engine light on every 300 miles, its some sort of sensor GM KNOWS ABOUT AND REFUSES to do anything about. I have to get a rental car since my vacation is non refundable. BS with GM, never getting a Malibu again, just got the Car less then 6 months ago.
